Or wait for a fix that will be released around 8th of May, alongside, or shortly before, 0.9.5

You do not need to install them
Then you go to a page for GAMMA on GoG, and click install, just like you would do with a Steam game

You may see some inconsistencies in your game compared to those of us with the most up-to-date versions we manually installed, but that'll because GoG has the September build with an older version of 3DSS. Only significant change is that the SVD is now C instead of D. Everything else is model and minor name changes.

To recruit random stalkers as companions:

1. Talk to the leader of the squad.
2. The size of the squad must be within your limit (by default you can't have more than one companion at the time).
3. Your rank value must be at least 1.5 times higher than that of the squad leader.
4. Squad leader must consider you friendly (depends on your rank, reputation, faction relations and more).

Requirements 3 and 4 don't apply to paid companions, but they are rarer overall and can only be found among Loners, Bandits, Mercenaries and Freedom.
If you wish to be able to recruit more stalkers, in-game, open Mod Configuration Menu > Custom Companion Squad Size, and drag the sliders found within to the right.
