Is there a way to ride the monorail? I saw a clip in the trailer that seemed like the player was riding the monorail but I have no idea how.

Yes you need to build the railrunner tool. Then once you have a monorail set up with two ends you can get under the rails and hold the jump button until your character hops on, once they have hopped on you can let go of the jump button. The jump button on keyboard is space, while on controller is Y.
Sometimes it helps if you are on controller to slightly walk forward while holding Y as well.
