#How does core clustering work
22 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
hello! i have a very in depth answer for this haha
Core Clustering is a late game feature in Techtonica that allows players to tap into the potential of Research Cores that have been built but which are not assigned to the activation of a specific technology. This feature is still in development, and the in-game messaging we have for it is a work in progress. We appreciate your patience!
To start Core Clustering, you need to activate the Core Clustering technology. This will make your Research Cores eligible for clustering. Currently, Purple Cores form a Core Cluster at 10 Cores, and Blue Cores form a Core Cluster at 5 Cores. For example, if you have 100 unassigned Purple Cores and 20 unassigned Blue Cores, you will have a total of of 14 Core Clusters - 10 from your Purple Cores, and 4 from your Blue Cores. The current number of unassigned cores you have can be seen in the bottom-left of your Tech Tree.
In order for your Core Clusters to yield bonuses, however, you will have to continue up the Tech Tree! The 'Core Boost' series of technologies are what enable this. There are currently five Core Boost technologies, and when you activate them, your Core Clusters will immediately initiate the bonuses they provide. For example, if your activate the Core Boost (Smelting) technology, it will increase the speed of all Smelters in your game by 0.25% for each Core Cluster you have. With 14 Core Clusters, that means a 3.5% increase.
Furthermore, when you activate additional boosts further up the Tech Tree, you will receive the full bonuses for all boosts - you do not currently need to choose or assign which Core Clusters work with a given boost. You get all of the bonuses from all of the boosts you can manage to activate!
In the future, cores will only be eligible for clustering if they are built on a Core Composer. For now, however, all cores built anywhere count towards clustering.
thano you so much!
no prob!
I dont think the blue core clusters work for core boost bonuses. I have about 1500 unused blue and I have researched all the techs. There is no increment in power generation or speeds ( I actually measured with stopwatch). The power generation goes up only when amount of purple cores is increased.
that's good to note, i will ask!
So for the cores to become a cluster and give the bonus do they have to be placed in a core composer and not used or do they just have to be built and stored in a chest
they must be placed in the world, or deployed by the core composer. while in a chest they dont count for bonuses or tech unlocks
Thanks for this, that answers a lot of what I found confusing about the core composer eating any excess you fed it. Now I've got some crates to go empty.
A followup question... A core composer only seems to be willing to accept a maximum of 500 excess cores (regardless of color). Does that mean that it's better to feed it Blue cores (5/cluster = max 100 clusters per composer) than cheaper Purple cores (10/cluster = 50 clusters per composer)? Also, if I'm doing the math correctly, 100 clusters is a 25% boost per maxed composer?
core composer right now only autoplaces cores, and not affecting core clustering
core clustering happens automaticalyl and as long as core is placed and not used to hold tech active it will be counted towards clustering
for 500 cores inside Core Composer you can take it out wiyhout any issues
with Mass collect, inserter or by deconstructing core composer
Good to know, thanks.
So, is it just me? 😩
they're checking it out! it's a late game thing so it takes a while for testing to get there, sorry!
I can give my save file if it helps
