I don't think I fully understand what you mean, why would they be separated unless they need to be animated independent of one another
I would think the only reason you wouldn't do the animations on the same viewmodel is if you were doing IK and wanted to solve for the arms based on an animated end point
attach the gun to the viewmodel with motor6ds
