so that thrust gauge is effectively useless and likely be replaced with something else or?

Yeah I'd think that it will someday get removed or replaced.

On a sidenote, a side effect of this change is that a different bug on the dispays should have dissapeared. https://discord.com/channels/909034158205059082/1398486036832718878

Probably it makes flaring more consistent too as the IR missile should select a random heat source.

the fix for this is just to swap to actually displaying thrust, 'cause right now engine telemetry only reads the chicane tail rotor's output POWER
