Results this suggestion aims for are:
- reducing self LD
- rising the importance of teamplay
- enriching gameplay types by introduction of FO role
- making recon more distinctive role
Add a set of pod types allowing mass laser designation in trade off for any significant offensive capability either based on occupied stations or weight, for elevation of the recon / FO playstyle.
Cheap one
- loadout allowing enhanced optical detection and laser designation up to 10 or 15 km allowing a Cricket to provide laser designation for 16 targets at once
The cricket would however need to have hull pylons occupied by the system and have inner pylons occupied by additional RAM turbine modules to provide enough energy for the system, in case of clicket adding the capacitor (the combo would be as heavy as needed to only allow S2 on outer pylons with full tanks)
Expansive one
- loadout combo for Medusa offering up to 56 targets at 25 km range, but being mutually exclusive with the radome, occupying the bay and inner pylons.
In both cases, the laser would be on/off the same way as are jammers (or switchable if that comes) and would draw energy the same way, though significantly faster with the Cricket, and the energy consumption would depend on number of selected targets.
This taken, the lased designation should only be possible at max range in clear sky conditions and reduced or even prohibited by clouds or fog, introducing loadout dependency on weather.
Target hits achieved trough buddy lasing this way should give the lased painting pilot share on bonus for the kill.
Additionally, Compass, Vortex, Ifrit, Medusa and Darkreach should not be able to laser designate by default at all, with Compass getting LD pod for the centerline to allow 2 (4?) targets for some significant weight/drag penalty, and Vortex and Ifrit should have external additional hardpoint for optional LD turret slightly rising RCS and drag.
