Why not?

because missiles are better

torps can as well

earnest gulch
#

they have a range about 20-15 km

shrewd zodiac
#

and we are getting the ASHM-300 for aircraft soon

earnest gulch
#

but it is much easier to deliver torpedoes on ifrit than deliver cruise missiles on a darkreach

shrewd zodiac
#

and AGM-68 on the ifrit are a very good choice as well

earnest gulch
#

but what will you do if there is 4 shard class corvette?

#

they will shoot every AGM-68 down on there way

Yeah subs seem to be a no-go

Subs are really only cool and fun when a game is specifically designed to incorporate them. Otherwise they are very hard to make engaging.

Exactly what Mitch has said of the topic in recent past

The only platform where it would make sense to have torpedoes in-setting would be the Medusa Imo, and they would be ASROCs, so anti sub warfare, not anti ship. When was the last time anyone used air dropped anti ship torpedoes after WW2 ?

#

Sorry forgot ASROCs are more the VLS kind of ordinance. Well I meant to say whatever those mini anti sub airdropped torpedoes are. The ones where you need two to sink a sub in Cold Waters

yea torpedoes are just not used for anti ship warfare any more, nuclear option is unfortunately not the right place for them

ASW would add more depth, and as always it could be optional. Not every mission needs to have submarines involved, and there are many types of submarines, from the smallest coastal types to large SBNNs.Thats besides the point, torps would be nice, but unless we get submarines it'd be best if we got an AShM

One thing you all seem to be forgetting is that torpedoes don't generally like hitting the water at high speeds, so they need to be dropped from slow moving aircraft and/or use a chute to slow down. Air-deployed torpedoes are usually only effective against subs anyway, surface vessels generally will shoot down the launch platform before it gets within range to employ torpedoes. Torpedoes are only really effective against surface ships if employed from submarines, which don't have to worry about air defenses and have a much better chance of sneaking up to a good firing position.

ehhh, you can fire a torpedo at a high speed and with relatively minimal altitude requirements (100m or so) and a drag chute will be able of slowing down the torpedo before it hits the water. Not to mention that while a ship might be able of shooting down a launching platform if it deploys a torpedo, this doesn't account for the range of the actual torpedo, which by the 2070s could be quite vast

Air dropped naval drones would be an interesting idea; and basically just be a really stealthy surface/sub-surface anti ship missile.

They've certainly come into prominence with their recent use against in the Black Sea indicating that they may very well be capable of being used to devastating effect in places where AShMs could not reach.

#

And that aside; it's a fun and interesting weapon.

Near future tech means that any limitations that one sees for present day torpedoes can just be waved away; and such torpedoes/drones can be made as effective, and given such capabilities, as needed to make them interesting.

imho its not worth the effort do design whole underwater systems, when we already have a bunch of interesting stuff in the air. torpedoes are fine by themselves, but i dont think they fit into nuclear option when we already have so many other methods to kill ships

The seahawk can launch guided torps if i remember

Hear me out:
Nuclear Torpedos exist IRL...
It's just a nuke missile that skims at -1 altitude.

YES YES YES. Torps? Not bad. Drone kamikadze boat? Insane speed for it(200-400km/h)? YES. New? YES effective? IDK, but should be good

I've said it before, i'll say it again. Supercavitating Torpedoes. Both the US and Russia have researched them. Take the VA-111 Shkval for example. 200 mph underwater.
