A map/environment editor would work by allowing the players to have access to an editor either within the mission editor or a separate map editor within the game. This editor would allow players to edit the terrain, terrain material (desert, snow, forest, grasslands, etc) and foliage such as trees and other types of foliage added in the future. These maps would only use the assets available already within the game and thus would be able to be uploaded to the workshop as maps separately or bundled with missions. This would lighten the load on the developers as they could focus their efforts more toward aircraft and game mechanics. That said, the developers obviously can still create their own maps for certain game modes and such. A good example of this would be VTOL VR’s environment editing system, it has an easy to use road editor and is able to control terrain as well as place towns and cities very easily. Hope you take this into consideration. (:

IDK if the current map was made with Mia or Blender or what, but simply having the ability to have modded maps would be fantastic. See VTOL VR, which uses a black and white image to generate terrain, allowing you to either generate a game map from google earth or paint one in a simple photoshop type program.
