#Crazy Spawn Behaviour - AI spawning without limits

Custom mission with very odd issue... Once SBGA is taken Compasses and Chicanes spawn an unlimited amount of times for the BDF. There are no factories that would produce that amount and the unit bank is set to zero.

Further, there are no factories that produce compasses that spawn once SBGA is taken.

Both Chicanes and Compasses would also be able to spawn at the island base before SBGA is capped anyways, it just seems like once SBGA is taken the unit bank gets unlimited AI Compass / Chicanes.

Edit: but as Ryū mentioned, if the players destroy the spawn buildings at SBGA, the AI stops spawning and returns to normal spawn rates at other airfields.

I've looked through the .json file and I can't figure anything that looks out of place.

I've attached the file if it is helpful.

want to clarify that in his mission this ONLY happens at sbga, and when sbga's spawn buildings are destroyed all the overspawning stops, even if the factories are totally unaffected

In addition, it is sometimes only Compasses and sometimes only Chicanes, sometimes both.

...because now it's only Compasses...???

#

So confused

candid coyote
#

all 3 times we played the mission

#

afaik

#

compasses just piled up a lot faster due to them having 4 spawn points instead of 2 i think

manic dirge
#

I've seen Chicanes, but this time there were none

candid coyote
#

strange

manic dirge
#

Literally set all the unit supply to 0, deleted all of the factories, and still...

candid coyote
#

might be a pala factory contributing?

#

but i dont see how that would be possible

manic dirge
#

I mean, I've check all the production times, unless one is totally bugged. Nothing is less than 300 seconds and most of them don't spawn until after you take city

#

Going to keep looking though

candid coyote
#

maybe the unspawned ones somehow account to that

#

idk 🤷‍♂️

manic dirge
#

It's also whack that it only affects SBGA

Hey, Mr. CEO @solar hazel, have you ever seen this behaviour described.

#

Because I'm literally out of ideas

solar hazel
#

No but I'm very interested in reproducing it

manic dirge
#

Absolutely stumped

#

The weirdest thing is that it doesn't seem to be consistent either

#

This might be one for the devs

solar hazel
#

what happens if you just uncapture SBGA

#

delete all ground units that could capture it

#

or change them to the other side

#

if one of the other airbases starts vomiting aircraft then we'll know for sure its some kind of inventory problem

manic dirge
#

Everything is normal until PALA loses the base and the BDF take it

#

The BDF has island before and after, but when @buoyant patio destroyed the revetments and pads at SBGA the spawning stopped and didn't move to island.

buoyant patio
#

like he said, when you blow up sbga's revetments and hangar and helipads, the spawning stops completely, even if you don't touch the factories

#

it doesn't move to another airbase, it just stops

manic dirge
#

Yeah, I'm lost.

Removed all factories, still happens, set all ground unit supply to 0, still happens. Looked through the entire .JSON file for anything that looked weird, still couldn't see anything.

Makes me not want to invest any more time into it unfortunately, not until it's figured out.

At this point the whole mission is basically going to go in the trash.

manic dirge
#

I did not figure out what caused it, but I did rollback the file several versions... unsure if it will emerge again or if something was corrupted.

solar hazel
#

was half expecting the reveal that every single MapObject factory was producing crickets on 0 cooldown or something

swift dagger
#

i remember seeing this when i was playing the map, would be kinda funny if not for the lag.

manic dirge
#

It's baaaaack

#

but this time only at hwy 1

#

...............

#

This time, it occured when HWY 1 base was captured by BDF (Player team). HWY 1 started spawning compass and Chicanes nonstop. Once we destroyed the spawn points at hwy 1 they stopped spawning and did not start from any other airbase.

manic dirge
#

To reiterate, there is also no production for Chicanes for the BDF. So production should be 0.

We ran another run of the most current version today, it didn't happen at all, so I have no clue what changed. It seems to be triggered by something random, but I can't figure out what it is.

manic dirge
#

So, without making any changes to the mission, Revokers started spawning at Mountain this time.....??? No Chicanes, no Compasses.

#

Working theory, it seems to occur at whichever base is captured last, when there aren't any PALA bases left; however, it is not consistant because this doesn't happen in other missions.

manic dirge
#

Let's hope that whatever changes are made in 0.28 resolve it, since I really don't think it's caused by anything that can be influenced by the mission editor at this point.

candid coyote
#

the gods have come to help pala

#

their ways in doing so may be questionable though

manic dirge
#

Still present in 0.28 even with max AI limits set.

It seems that this behaviour occurs when the last airbase is captured. At least in the last few times experiencing it.

It might be related, I'm unsure, but in 0.30, on multiple of the default singleplayer maps (Escalation and the new Island map both tested) the game continues to spawn AI planes even with the spawn limit set to 0 and after waiting for any initial map placed planes to die off or leave. It seems to mostly want to spawn Revokers but I saw it spawn the large bomber as well on Escalation.

Thanks for the info. I do find that behavior quite vexing. But at least knowing that it's fixable.
