It would be nice if under the icons or the names of the weapons/items to tell which is so it would be easier for new players. Example:

  1. Whip (Weapon)
  2. Magic Wand (Weapon)
  3. Knife (Weapon)

  1. Spinach (Passive item or just Item for short)
  2. Armor (Passive item or just Item for short)
  3. Hollow Heart (Passive item or just Item for short)

I think this would be nice QoL change.

I don't think this is needed, it's quite easy to differentiate by what gives general stat bonuses and what is a weapon that will kill enemies/protect you from harm.

#

And weapons and passives go in their respective slots, as well

For veterans yes, but new players will be quite confusing for the first few hours

I have no idea what you're talking about, it's a pretty simple concept I have yet to see anyone struggle with until now, even people brand new to the genre, like I myself was when first playing the game.

Weapons go in the top 6 slots, passive items go in the bottom 6 slots, you can clearly notice the pattern and see them in their two distinct categories. I see no reason for there to be confusion nor any clarification needed by adding unnecessary text.

Yeah, that'd be a nice change. Or give them a different border color to differentiate them wordlessly :)

Yes, something that says "these are the weapons and these are the passive items". It will get easier when you put a few hours into, but there is no clarification. Some items and weapons right away can say which is what, but not for everything.

One thing that messed me up a few times was the Laurel. Sabotaged my own builds when I first started since I kept forgetting it's a 'weapon'
