as title, picked up maaany chests, game almost at 30 min mark, won't unite into Fuwalafuwaloo

running into the exact same problem with the 3rd new hero Syuuto - took whip, then vento sacro, lvled em both to 8, chest upgrades the whip, but the 2nd chest doesn't unite them. Then it did upgrade another weapon when I got that on 8...

tried on different map, different order (didn't pick up vento sacro until after i had evolved blood tear)
problem persists
