well, there is a free trial!

The basics about ffxiv is that you follow the main scenario quests.
When you make your character, you select one class/job, but one your job is level 10- you can aquire others.
You can level every single job, but free trial is limited that some jobs aren't available, most are though.

FFXIV has three main categories of combat jobs:
Tank (main purpose is to get the enemies attention, but essentially you're just doing damage while making sure to hit all enemies and use your defense skills)
Healer: (main purpose is to keep everyones health bar up, you still do damage but have a really small damage skill selection. most of your skills heal 1 or more people)
DPS (main purpose, dealling damage, you have close range, ranged and casters basically. each job plys a tad different)

if you are a newbie, you shouldnt be scared of tanking or healing jobs, but the easiest is to learn the game as a DPS

if it helps, you start at level 1, skills will be gained gradually

bard starts as archer, from level one and as a physical ranged dps, you have long range + no casting times, giving you a lot of mobility which is handy when learning the game

you can see, every few levels you gain a skill

the top skill from lvl 1, is your basic single target attack, the second one, is basically a random boost for the first skill

Still one button
the third skill is a simple damage boost, use whenever you can

the venomous bite? it poisons your enemy, reapply when the effect dissapears form the enemy

etc

The bottom one in this pic is an AoE (area of effect skill) you can see it lists a radius, which means it can hit all enemeis in that radius)

honestly, it is a really good game. It has its ups and downs, personally I enjoy the story aspect a lot

but as an MMO, it is a game that might take a lot of time to get through

and since it is online, while lot of players are nice, you also have a risk of running into less charitable players

overal though, it is still my fave game

being a popular game, it also has plenty of fanmade guides

So yea, you start out with only a few skills, and trust me, you will gradually grow into it

there is also the hall of novice which gives you a few tutorials with rewards, before you enter your first dungeon

(sadly not mandatory, but it is very useful, the main scenario briefly points it out)

not to mention: nowadays you can also select duty support for most main scenario dungeons, which matches you with NPC, instead of real players, allowing you to go at your own pace

I have seen that most players are helpful. A lot of high level players who have finished everything will wait and help new players.

I did once read that the devs thought about making an off-line solo player experience. But I’ve seen nothing about it since.

also, now that the big post covid hype is over, and they added more servers, the chances are better

but I do have a house, yet am planning to let it expire, since I work full time and cant stay subscribed when I am not playing as it'd be a money waste

Have you tried Palia? You get a house and can buy, I think up to 10 plots to have more houses.

Palia doesn’t have a lot of MMO play though.

I did, but coming from ffxiv where I enjoyed the community bit a lot, palia didnt feel like a mmo at all - player interactions are there, but minimal, they might as well be npc

and I did palia in the early acces phase, so you had a lot of: struggling to get materials since 4 people were there before you, and not a lot of content yet

Not much is required for group play.

my favourite MC mods are ones that add lots of cool things. Exotic Birds (lots of awesome birds and eggs you can hatch!) Alex's Mobs (loads of animals and all sort of cool items that come from them) Domestication Innovation (lets you make pretty much any animal your pet and adds awesome skills to them) Farmer's Delight (loads of extra crops to grow and cool kitchen furnishings)

Minecraft has been lacking in a lot of features for a very long time and the modding community are passionate and dedicated folks who love to enhance what is already there!

also, a lot of mods, for me at least, are accessibility-based and help a lot with my various disabilities

I never used to be into modding much aside form a mini-map. but after playing for 15 years there is only so much replayability to Minecraft 😄 since I started modding more I have been enjoying the game so much more and I think that's the important thing

Hmm it depends. I love building cities and houses and creating Sims. So I probably build more than really play.
But I don't like that there are only so few plots in Sims 4. Don't understand it, when the building is soo much better there.

So Sims4 I am mostly building. Playing not so much, because I don't like the loading screens and the live events with limited stuff makes makes me only do quest related stuff while playing.

In Sims 3 I love the open world. I can actually move over the complete world, jump to Sims at different places, look what Sims from other households do 😂

Sims 2 I play mostly for gameplay. Love the random wholseme or chaos interaction between Sims. Oh and also world building with many plots and families

Because most of the world you can't really go to or interact with..

Yeah, something I really like about Sky is that most items come back for free, just slightly more expensive than a 1:1 ratio of F2P:paid currency, patience and playing the long game is key here!
