Tailscale works generally fine, easy to set up. I have just found one scenario when it does not work well (several NAT levels and bridges, the usual stuff when you share wifi with your neighbor)

do you mean to say using multiple routers? I think putting the inner one to be just an AP might fix that but don't quote me on that
