Played two quick runs of the updated beta, and I want to say my first reaction to several changes is extremely positive.
- I only played one run with them, but on first glance I love the cursed crowns. For me they totally hit the sweet spot of "wow, this is really, meaningfully MUCH worse, but possibly still worth it." I've been auto-clicking the crown reward after the first boss for a long time now, and this time I saw a -1 damage cursed crown and genuinely had to think about whether or not I wanted it, which was a really fantastic moment. I wasn't expecting the "can't be removed" part, and in the abstract it seems like not a great idea to me, but in my actual game I found I didn't mind. Losing the extra flexibility was an interesting challenge rather than a frustrating one.
- The variance in charms on bosses is really fun. I've only seen a few, but holy crap barrage Numskull was VERY scary in a very fun way, and snow on the Frost Bomber was also pretty cool and scary.
- The new random Sun and Battle charms are fun and quite scary when they show up, and I really like the high variance; I especially like that I can randomly encounter a super scary enemy that has two charms, and have to suddenly shift my priorities in a fight.
Gobblers and the new cursed cards I don't have a strong feeling about yet; I didn't find either to impact my game very much. None of the gobblers I saw were at all scary, and I saw extremely few cursed cards, but that could just be random chance.
Anyway, I'm sure there will need to be tweaking and fine-tuning of the new features, but I wanted to say that my first couple runs with the changes were really really fun and I feel really delighted with the new features.
