#Cannot see player skins in multiplayer server for 2

I have created a server with zerotier so me and my one friend can play together. However we cannot see each other's custome skins. I heard something about creating a text file in each skin folder and then going in the text file and then typing a number in it. And after we both have the exact same file we need to go to the multiplayer skin option and then type the number that is in the skin text file (all named id.txt).
But we still cannot see each other's skins.
