It's likely crashing because you're on the wrong patch for mods

Verify that you are using the correct installer and patch!

Hollow Knight recently updated. Until the modding tools are also updated, you need to make sure you're on the previous version (1.5.78...), available as a beta in Steam, with an installer such as Lumafly or Scarab.
- Pirated copies / Unofficial ports are not supported
Modding on 1.4.3.2 using "Mod Installer" / "Mod Installer 2" is no longer supported.
1.2.2.1 Modding does not have an installer.
- You can type ?tag 1221 for info on it.
