I just noticed I never switched to the 2.x.x version of Scarab, and I want to make sure the update will not break any save files or cause incompatibilities between mods, do I have to follow a specific process for updating or will just downloading Scarab+ work fine?

Scarab+ is just the installer, it won't effect any save files directly & the mods are the same as the mods on regular scarab. Once you install it, it will act just the same as scarab & you'll see your currently installed mods the same way
