I am attempting to install debug mod and benchwarp via Scarab and the game fails to launch each time. An error with a crash report briefly shows on my desktop each time, unfortunately too fast for me to screenshot or read the location the report was saved.
Steps to reproduce:

  1. downloaded scarab from https://github.com/fifty-six/Scarab and extracted files to desktop
  2. Scarab correctly identifies hollow knight folder on initial launch
  3. Clicked install on benchwarp (or debug mod) and confirmed the mod files were placed in hollow_knight_Data\Managed\Mods
  4. Attempted to launch game. Crash report briefly appears either instantaneously or after a minute
  5. Uninstalled mod through Scarab
  6. Attempted to launch game, same result
  7. Verified integrity of game files via steam. Steam reacquires two files
  8. Launch game without mods

Hollow Knight Crashes upon opening, after installing a mod
This glitch can happen for a number of reasons make sure that all the reasons listed listed below don't apply to you.

🔹 Your game patch doesn't match the installer you used.

  • Scarab is made for patch 1.5.78+
  • "Mod Installer 1" and 2 are made for version 1.4.3.2, and should no longer be used.
  • There aren't installers for other patches, like 1.2.2.1

🔹 Something didn't install correctly

  • Ensure that the installer is not still in a .zip file, and that it's not in your Downloads folder.
  • Run the installer as Administrator
