#Timed out?

I’m really confused, and not about any mod or game issues; but rather why I was timed out.

Before anyone mentions it; yes, I did read through the entirety of the rules. There wasn’t a single thing I could find that would’ve prompted a time out, and an admin that I PM’d during the time out hadn’t answered me when I asked (and still hasn’t answered by the time this is sent).

If this is about the vague rule regarding #hk-showcase (stating that memes and conversations aren’t allowed), then I’d suggest making a more thorough explanation on what is or isn’t considered a conversation regarding the channel (if you don’t want messages other than those showing off screenshots, change the wording to reflect as much); quoting a TikTok audio in reference of a rando screenshot is neither a conversation or a meme, so I do not understand how or why it would result in a mute without warning.
Nobody even PM’d me or flat out pinged me to inform me, which isn’t a good moderation practice when there are so many people here as well as large amounts of commotion.
(/nm, just genuinely confused bc this literally hasn’t been an issue at all before this assumed 30 minute mute, which was unnecessary for a “money money money” one-&-done that wouldn’t result in a conversation)

Hello 👋
I didn't time you out, but looking at the logs, it looks like you probably were timed-out for repeatedly posting messages to #hk-moments (I don't see any messages from #hk-showcase ?). I say repeatedly because it looks like it happened a couple of weeks ago as well.
Generally speaking, when removing messages from those channels, we either create the thread for you, or just remove the message; we don't usually time-out unless it's repeatedly happening or there's other things going on tamershrug

and an admin that I PM’d during the time out hadn’t answered me when I asked (and still hasn’t answered by the time this is sent).

  • If this is me, I currently have a bunch of unread rando DMs. I just got home from work, and I put rando DMs off until much later to go through. Discord also filters all DMs from random people into one out-of-sight folder, so like, you have to specifically go look at them.
  • It's usually advised to use @wheat swan for staff inquiries, since then any available staff can look though it.

then I’d suggest making a more thorough explanation on what is or isn’t considered a conversation regarding the channel (if you don’t want messages other than those showing off screenshots, change the wording to reflect as much)

  • #hk-showcase's Channel Topic does state that the channel is only for showing off your creations. It further says that any conversation should be in #hk-general. From this, is seems pretty clear that you should only use the channel to show off your creations. That being said, it does need to be updated to reflect that since Threads became a thing, that has become the preferred response. And it should also probably be pinned there. That being said, this wasn't the channel that was actually relevant...
  • #hk-moments 's Channel Topic is empty zote but there is a pinned message that is very explicit about what is/isn't allowed in the channel. Again, for parity this channel should also have the same info added to the Channel Topic.

so I do not understand how or why it would result in a mute without warning
We typically use the Discord Time-Outs as the warning. Generally speaking, people are able to see what's going on in the time, and again, can always use Mod Mail if for some reason there's confusion.

Must’ve tapped the wrong channel, but that still doesn’t explain why muting is the warning. It’s extremely ineffective, specifically when the user is offline or looking in another server at the time. Using a silent warning doesn’t inform the user of why they were muted or alert them of the mute itself. It can be easily overlooked, especially when the person is— as previously mentioned— offline or looking through another server.

Also, addressing the pinned message; that is yet another thing that is easily overlooked, especially in cases similar to this one. It would be more effective to have all of the rules in one place rather than several, that way they will not be missed. The overall objective of the rules channel is to contain all the rules, but having rules scattered into several places causes disorder in the server, and results in misunderstandings that would easily be avoided.
