Rumors have been speculating of a new Formula 1 Team heading into 2024. After recent news that Andretti’s bid of to join the gird in 2024 has failed, speculation on who is going to be the next team to enter Formula 1 has been riled up. After a recent press conference, CEO Katsuya Nakanishi has announced that Mitsubishi will enter into the sport of Formula 1 heading into the 2024 season as F1’s latest team.

A statement by Katsuya Nakanishi states; “The decision wasn’t easy, however our facilities have improved and we are prepared to put everything in on the line. Mitsubishi is an incredible company and it will be our duty to become a success in Formula 1. However this will take time. Entering the sport of Formula 1 will be difficult at first, however with the right staff and drivers I am positive the team will be a success!”

Days after the recent news that Mitsubishi will join the grid in 2024, a recent statement from Visa Cash App RB’s Team Principle Laurent Mekies has announced that Yuki Tsunoda will be leaving the RB family. Following this a statement from Mitsubishi states that Yuki Tsunoda will drive for the Japanese team.

Yuki Tsunoda stated in recent interviews; “It will be an honor to race for the Japanese based team. I see this as a new journey and a new start to something great for my career.”
After the recent news, Mitsubishi was able to snatch Mattia Spini from the Visa Cash App RB team to continue partnering with Yuki Tsunoda heading into the 2024 season.

After much speculation on who will partner Yuki Tsunoda in the 2024 Formula 1 Season, Mitsubishi has announced that Formula 2 Champion Theo Pourchaire will drive for the Japanese base team. As stated by the team; “After seeing what Pourchaire can do in the lower levels of racing, we believe that we can develop him into a future world champion and hopefully provide him with the car he needs to do it. He will be paired with a race engineer Pau Rivera as we hope that any connection that was made in Formula 2 will translate into Formula 1.”

A final statement Mitsubishi announced entering into the 2024 FIA Formula 1 season was the introduction of Technical Chief Pat Fry and Head of Aerodynamics Ian Greig. Along side partnering with Mercedes AMG High Performance Power trains to supply the team with Formula 1 engines. CEO Katsuya Nakanishi stated; “With these two members entering the Mitsubishi Family, they will be vital to expanding knowledge and providing experience within’ the team. Mitsubishi are proud to announce these members of our team and are ready for the challenges we may face on and off the track.”

The season opener at the Bahrain International circuit finds the Japanese based team making its remarkable debut as the drivers attempt to find their limitations and figure out the struggles with the car. Stated in interviews after FP3 and over social media; “The car is not quick which was to be expected. The team knows it and the drivers know it. However we will push. Success doesn’t happen instantly; it takes time. However anything can happen over a couple of laps so we will push and see what happens.”

With qualifying complete, Mitsubishi find Theo Pourchaire P19 while teammate Yuki Tsunoda finds themselves out into Q2 and finds his way P15 at the chequered flag. Entering in on Sunday, Mitsubishi put both drivers on a two stop starting the race on the soft compound of tires. Tsunoda showing his experience as lap 9 finds himself P12 meanwhile teammate Theo Pourchaire P19. Entering the pits on laps 18 and 19, Tsunoda finds himself exit behind Bottas on old mediums in P14 meanwhile teammate Pourchaire P21. Pourchaire enters the pits from P18 and comes out P21 for his final stop on lap 36. Meanwhile Yuki Tsunoda comes out P15 after his stop on lap 38 chasing down Alex Albon who pushed his way past during the pits. Lap 51 finds Tsunoda in a close battle for P13 as Magnessun is less then a second away meanwhile Pourchaire is hanging onto P16. As we cross the chequered flag for the first time in Formula 1, the drivers come across the line P13 and P16. A good result for the team with a car which is not quick enough for points.

The Jeddah Corniche Circuit finds Mitsubishi front and centre as the track is known for high levels of mistakes from drivers. With rookie Theo Pourchaire at the wheel, many are questioning how well he will do at this narrow street circuit. At the end of the free pracitce sessions, Sky Sports asked driver Yuki Tsunoda; “How does the car feel coming into Jeddah?” In reply; “The car needs improvement, however this track does suit our car better. Aslong as we give it our all on Sunday I believe a result could come our way.”

Entering into qualifying at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, both drivers able to make their way out of Q1. Entering into Q2 Pourchaire’s in lap has a twist of fate as he runs wide to give space to Fernando Alonso, however Pourchaire just on the apex corner collides providing front wing damage and sidepod damage to our car. With Alonso retiring from Q2, this is not a good look for the team and Pourchaire. Unfortunately the Mitsubishi team just finds their way out of Qualifying with Pourchaire P15 while teammate Yuki Tsunoda ends the session P11. Pourchaire will attempt a one stop meanwhile teammate Yuki Tsunoda will attempt a two stop. As the lights go out, Yuki Tsunoda finishes lap 1 in P10! Meanwhile teammate moves up into P13. As Zhou crashes on lap 17, a VHC is deployed giving both drivers a chance to pit for the Hard tires. After a crash from a VCARB driver, Theo Pourchaire is out of the Saudi GP after the incident. Leaving teammate Yuki Tsunoda to finish the race from P14. After pushing to try to remake places, on lap 27 Yuki Tsunoda pushes and pushes until his car locked up and found himself into the barriers. Lap 37 found another victim to the barriers; George Russel found himself out of the race leaving opportunity for rival teams to gain points on Mitsubishi. After interviewing the drivers both came to agreement that today was not their race.

Heading into the Australian Grand Prix, Mitsubishi has announced the signing of Andrea Kimi Antonelli as an affiliate driver till the end of the 2025 season. CEO Katsuya Nakanishi states; “With the signing of Antoonelli, we wish to develop him into a future world champion. We wish to work with him and we are to make sure that his potential is reached. We wish to bring him into Formula 1 and will dedicate FP1 sessions to him regularly.”

Rain falls on the streets of Melbourne as driver Yuki Tsunoda is knocked out of Q1 and starts the race P19 meanwhile teammate Pourchaire ends the session P16. With no upgrades for the race it is a push untill the upgrades become available. “The car is slow. All I can do is drive the car I have. I will push and see if I can make any improvement” - Tsunoda.
A poor start from both drivers find ourselves P20 and P18. With issues to Pourchaires gearbox, pace is not good. With the drivers gearbox issues getting worse, both drivers find themselves P22 and P21 at the end of the pitstops. Lap 46 found Yuki Tsunoda spin and crash. This was a race to forget. A disappointing result for the team and a bad look going into round 4 of the season. P22 and P21 for the drivers and confidence from the team has dropped in a result. Fortunately no rivals scored points during this race.

As we enter into the home of Mitsubishi and Yuki Tsunoda, the season finds its way to the Suzuka International Racing Course. Entering into Japan, Mitsubishi find themselves with upgrades to the car, however the car still not up to the standards of what the team wishes to find themselves in. “Its amazing to be representing Japan in this team. I’ve dreamt about driving this track in a Japanese car since I was a kid. This is a perfect chance to prove to the home fans how good we are and gives everyone at home someone to represent.” - Tsunoda

Entering into qualifying, Mitsubishi is hopeful that the new front and rear wing will be able to push closer and closer into the points. However data shows this will be a tricky task at hand. As the cars enter Q1 the atmosphere is unlike anything Japan had ever seen. Unfortunately Pourchaire out in Q1 finding himself P19 meanwhile teammate Yuki Tsunoda end the session P16. As the lights went out and the drivers completed the first lap; Tsunoda finds himself up into P12 meanwhile an incredible start for Pourchaire finds himself up into P15. Unfortunately lap 6 finds Pourchaire locking up and loosing positions down to P19. As Zhou hits the barrier on lap 16, both drivers enter the pits to make a stop. As a result drivers come out P21 and P17. As the drivers come across the finish line there is no points in todays race, however a great drive from Yuki finds himself P13.

“The upgrades have shown some improvement, but we are a long way from where we want to be. The team will continue to work hard and we will push for better results.”

Entering the Shanghai GP, it was the teams first Sprint Race of the season. With hope to find improvement on the track, China is an incredible opportunity to see how the upgrades on the car have panned out. At the end of Qualifying, Tsunoda finds himself P17 meanwhile teammate Pourchaire P16. As the sprint came to a close, a twist of events as Pourchaire spun on lap 8 found his hopes of gaining positions a loss and ended the session P18. Meanwhile Tsunoda with the hopes to get closer to the top 10 charges and finds himself finishing in P12. After recent interviews, here is what Tsunoda had to say; “The pace is really good. The car was beginning to feel alive and I took full advantage of it.”

Entering qualifying, Mitsubishi's hopes are high that the work they put in will pay off. As both drivers went out in Q2, it was certainly not over as the drivers finished P16 and P14. Unfortunately the long term pace was not there for our drivers. Tsunoda finished P14 while teammate Pourchaire P15.

Entering into Miami for round 6, yet another sprint race awaits the drivers. Mitsubishi hoping to capitalise on this weekend to attempt to reach their first points of the season. After both drivers find their way out of SQ2, they line up for the sprint in P14 and P16. A very wet sprint race finds the drivers in challenging condition with this being the first race Theo Pourchaire will have to do in slippery track conditions. A great drive for Pourchaire finding him self gain 2 positions to P14 meanwhile Tsunoda making his way to P13. No points however a positive start to the weekend. A tricky qualifying however finds our drivers P19 and P18. Not the result the team was looking for however the race always has something new in store. After a great charge by Tsunoda, lap 7 finds himself P14. After entering the pits on lap 18, Pourchaire renters P18 meanwhile Tsunoda finds his way up to P15. Lap 25 finds Mitsubishi P12 and P14. Pourchaire enters the pits on lap 41 from P14 and renters P16 followed by Yuki Tsunoda on lap 42 and enters P12.

LAP 48!!!! A late incident from P3 Charles Leclerc finds a red flag with only 9 laps remaining in the race. This may not benefit Pourchaire however it puts points on the table for Yuki Tsunoda! With fresh softs fitted to both cars. It will be a charge to the end as we wish to maximise this opportunity. The red flag from heaven! Yuki Tsunoda in Mitsubishi has their first points in Formula 1! With only 0.247 separating him from P9!

Entering the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix Mitsubishi is feeling energised and encouraged to keep pushing. Katsuya Nakanishi has this to say; “After a result like Miami, we know it will be tough to redo that. However we are starting to get to grips with the car and we are identifying the improvements. The team back at the factory are working hard to find these gains. As i’ve said in the past this project will take time and we understand the challenges we will face. I would also like to announce that Antonelli will drive in FP1 at Barcalona.”

Entering Qualifying, hopes and anticipation is high. With targets set low, this will provide the chance for the drivers to outdo all expectations. Tsunoada lines up P12 meanwhile Pourchaire finds his best qualifying in P14. An opportunity for the drivers to push up the field and reach for the points. Entering lap 11 Tsunoda finds himself P11 meanwhile Pourchaire P15. After the round of pitstops and a issue during Tsunoda’s, drivers come out P11 and P15. After attempting to stay out for a longer time, it has been examined that tire wear is an issue for the car. Unable to hang on to tyre life for the 1 stop. Although the end result wasn’t a full reflection of the car, it ends the weekend P11 and P16.

“It wasn’t an amazing race for me. I struggled on tires alot, however I can take this as an opportunity to grow and learn more about the car and about how I need to drive” - Pourchaire.

Round 8 of Formula 1 brings us to the Circuit De Monaco. A challenging circuit for all drivers however this will be a chance to see how Pourchaire is for his first F1 race at Monaco.
“I’m looking forward to this race. I know it will be tricky for me but I know my abilities and I will make the most of this weekend.” - Pourchaire.

Qualifying in the streets of Monte Carlo, with the drivers entering the grid, all eyes are on the front runners and the pop up of Mitsubishi. However it is only P12 and P14 for the Japanese team. With the hopes of a lap 1 charge into turn 1 as the only hope to secure points. With a dream of Formula 1 glory here on the streets of Monaco, its lights out and away we go. With the drivers pushing and pushing we found ourselves P11 and P13 after a pitstop under the safety car from George Russell on Lap 10. After the safety car restart, Yuki Tsunoda makes a move into turn 1 on Daniel Riccardo and finds himself up into P10 unfortunately a few laps later he is then re overtaken. After pitting on lap 39 and 40 for hards, we find the drivers P12 and P16, however many drivers are attempting a 2 stop and is a chance for improvement. As daniel Riccardo and Lance Stroll enter the pits, we come out ahead in P10. However Stroll pushing the life out of those fresh hards manages to find a way in front. With the race coming to an end, it was P11 for Yuki Tsunoda and P13 for Theo Pourchaire.

In an eventful race, George Russell and Fernando Alonso collided on Lap 7, allowing Yuki Tsunoda and Theo Pourchaire to move up to P13 and P11, respectively. By Lap 11, Pourchaire had overtaken to secure P10, and a lap later, Tsunoda moved to P11 while Pourchaire climbed to P9. On Lap 14, Tsunoda advanced to P10.
However, on Lap 19, Pourchaire suffered a puncture, forcing him out of the race alongside Kevin Magnussen and triggering a safety car. Tsunoda capitalized on the opportunity, moving up to P8 by Lap 37. A strategic pit stop on Lap 55 allowed Tsunoda to overcut Nico Hülkenberg, re entering in P9. Tsunoda finished the race in P9, while championship rival Daniel Ricciardo finished just ahead in P8.

Starting from P7, Yuki Tsunoda made a strong initial charge towards the front but soon fell back to P8 as the car lacked pace. Rivals around him made errors, but a pitstop issue on Lap 15 dropped him to P11. Despite others pitting around Lap 22, Tsunoda spun on Lap 34, losing another position. He ultimately finished in P12, and with another team member finishing P14, it was clear that this race did not go their way.
