I’m aware that we will be able to make new teams in the next game, however I doubt that will come with the ability to make your own engine/power units. I think it would be a cool feature to develop your own power unit (obviously it would be very expensive) but other teams would be able to use the power unit you make and you get money back. You could use something similar to the car part designer as a way to develop your own power unit and what not.

When creating your own team it would be nice to have the option to be a chassis manufacturer only or a chassis+power unit manufacturer. We would thus have the possibility of being able to create our own PU (perhaps by averaging the values of the 4 existing suppliers) and one day receive supply requests from other teams who would thus pay us to have our power units! It would also be nice if some new PU supplier (Ford, Toyota, Porsche, etc.) randomly entered from time to time.
Could also be done with Stat Points, RPG-style?
You get X points to put into power, durability etc, and then you can research at your facilities to unlock more Stat Points, to improve your PU over time?
Just thinking out loud 🙂
Excellent idea and first of all the PU department should be created among the structures which will then obviously have to be improved
Love that idea of choosing what kind of team you want to be in CAT start up.
Adding up the power, durability and fuel efficiency stats of the current 4 powertrain suppliers I get totals of…
- Ferrari - 345
- Renault - 370
- Honda RBPT - 337
- Mercedes - 360
So given that a new manufacture would absolutely start off on the back foot, having 320 points to allocated across the categories as we wish would be great. And, as a bonus, maybe even be able to reallocate points season to season and gain an extra 10 points or so at certain reputation milestones (I’d go a starting value of 300 in this case)
Great minds think alike! You beat me to it but I’d already typed most of that out so there was no way I was wasting it 😂
Or we could have starting choices, like for CAT?
1-5dot PU.. 1 dot, is god awful 5dot is GOATed
I just like customizability for CATs, it may not be for everyone, but it's fun to me for a season to throw Max and Lewis in a rocket and slaughter the competition 🙂
🔥 idea. Would probably be 1-5 dots available but you can only go as far as 3 at the start, as with other facilities. Would just be if it can sit within the existing facilities screen (only if custom PT route chosen at start). Should probably be hella expensive to upgrade beyond level 3
I think it's interesting, but I want to point out the fact that PU supplies doesn't pay financially at all. Or Renault doesn't think of retreating (and Honda didn't decide it once). So I think it's better to implement as a feature like PU customization mode.
Yeah I’m not too worried about the supplier income thing and it would further complicate this as a feature to implement. Sure, let other teams change to your engine between seasons but that doesn’t need to behave any differently to the existing AI switching set up
We have to insist on this thing of producing your own PU for two reasons:
- An incredible range of opportunities would open up because you could really bring every brand on the track with the correct PU (I'm thinking of BMW, Mazda, Peugeot, Hyundai, Porsche, Subaru and many others... All of them!)
- It would make the game stratospheric with the addition of the PU department among the structures and the possibility of becoming suppliers to other teams and therefore collecting from them for the supply!
Whilst I think this is a reasonably good idea for future games, the fact Frontier are three games in and cannot make the tyres work properly then I wouldn't trust them to implement an idea like this
Please keep it thread relevant, for general discussion, go to #game-discussion
It is thread relevant
I disagree, your opinion on whether or not you believe it feasible, isn't really relevant, neither is your thought on whether tyres work. But I'm not about to sit here and argue it, so you just do whatever you feel proper
You don't want to argue but made the first post?? Strange behaviour
Yes, I made that comment, because I wanted you to consider whether your comment added anything of relevance, and you somehow believe it does, so there's not that much more to argue. I'm done, if you really want to go at it, ping me in the proper channel.
This channel is for reporting bugs and suggesting features
I'll ping where I feel like mate...
Who put you in charge of deciding what is and isn't relevant??
My post was aimed at offering a balance between discussing what seems a very reasonable idea in depth when the developers are three games in and cannot come up with a coherent product considering the current feature set it is trying to implement. Tyres being one. Discussing feasibility of ideas is not only relevant but quite sensible.
But well done you've made this last 10 mins irrelevant
Well to get back on topic... I think it's a good idea, I like the rpg/stat point development ideas as well
