Hey Everyone!

I was reading over the rules and the release notes and I have a few confusions surrounding Chains of Mephetis. In the release notes is says

"This has a replacement effect that replaces the draw with a banish. You are not considered to have drawn a card if it is banished instead this way."
"If you would draw 2 or more cards, instead you banish that many cards from the top of your deck and may play each of them this turn from your banished zone."

Since it is a replacement effect, does this mean you get to draw more than the card said or do you still draw the same amount, you just cant use them as resources then? Im trying to figure out how exactly this card functions and the benefits of it.

I'm not sure by what you're asking about in regards to "since it's a replacement effect". All chains does is cause players to banish the top card of their deck if they would draw a card during an action phase.

The note about "you are not considered to have drawn a card" is referencing that it doesn't trigger effects that trigger from drawing cards and makes it so other replacement effects that replace card draw events no longer apply after chains applies

The posters comment alluded to drawing two cards but not counted as drawing cards resulting in an "infinite" banish attempting to fulfill the two.

However, that is not how compound events like Draw 2 work. Comprehensive Rules 1.9.2 explains draw 2 as two events of draw one. In this case a replacement effect is replacing a compound event, so o stead of drawing one, banish and then draw another and banish. We are taking two cards and banishing at once.

That makes more sense

I was just confused at the wording due to it making it seem as if it could pull off an infinite loop, but thank you for explaining ot well!
