Check your "audio setup" section of audacity to make sure the right record source is selected. Restart the app and/or reboot.

same thing happens to me sometimes randomly it does that, i click record and a new track pops up and it won't record no matter what i do, one time i opened OBS to record it to show somebody and it magically started working, weird thing is that it always works when OBS is open for some reason
