It's connected by a USB and showing up in devices but the line that moves during a recording doesn't move at all, or says "Error opening recording device. 9997"

Sorry but I don't know it this will work... It has helped 2 people that had similar issues.
With this configuration / settings your audacity will record all sounds from your computer.
