Ha ha no, magnetometer should show correct heading on the map in GPS rescue, and on the front page. Heading doesn’t change just because you choose gps rescue for the failsafe method.
Are you 100% sure the mag shows the correct heading? It must show 90 degrees when quad points East etc.

Heading changed when rescue mode could use magnetomiter. Could that be related to incorrect value ( negative / positive) on roll axis in gps/compas alignment? I'm positive it was showing in instruments and yaw axis was switching between 2° and 182°. Do you use rescue gps only or you do let it take data from magnetometer for better heading?
Only use magnetometers if they are validated and checked as per the wiki. Gps rescue works well without mag, but if the mag is working perfectly, it will work better.
However, orientation and calibration of a mag is not simple. Follow the wiki and check carefully.
@prisma moat I did calibrate mag and yes I did get it working. All good, using rescue with mag 👍😉
