#Custom keyboards
1 messages · Page 6 of 1
while being fully built but am looking for the look and ill never find a thing fits me iknow
either pink board
or clear white
I think most of the ones in the #1071070910989209661 are hot-swappable now
yes really almost every alice is hot swappable
dont mind me 😭
always like this and they make me feel am living in the moon with shipping prices
120 usd not really bad gor full keyboard with nice keycaps if something is bad am to blame because the price is low
Yeah, even with shipping that's good
That's cute
Looks like the TrackPoint on the ThinkPad
Just sayin'
Looks like there's no escaping from work
It's a full metal keyboard
Yes, most metal keyboards are machined out of a solid block of aluminum
Even if aluminum isn't that expensive of a metal, it's still quite a big chunk
it does but looks nicer
😭
ack... got a few new boards, looks like another round of massive swapping will be taking place soon
here's the plan of attack:
- Ducky One 3: remove keycaps + switches, install holy panda + white jade keycaps
- Idobao ID80: Ice King Tactile + White topo keycaps
- Epomaker RT100: remove keycaps + switches, install beer + clear green keycaps
- Green NK: Emerald Keycap
- Pink NK: Violac Keycap
- iROK FE87: Swap switches from Box Pink to Box Summer
- Womier K87: Kailh Box Winter + Summer Keycaps
how much is this procedure in $
a few hundreds
i feel broke
there was that keycap sale from Drop
and I went down a rabbit hole for clear acrylic keyboards
mhm, don't forget to share some pictures later
yeah
I need to process the stuff from this build
gorgeous DCX black on white keycaps
my wife's new favorite keyboard
ill figure something out for my keyboard
ill just probably get keycaps first
then ill get a new keyboard and try keycaps on it
found this one
for 17€
membrane but ill take it
as long as it's quiet and i feel when i press keys
Question
Why u have soooo many keyboards
Like some hobby or any other reason?
it is most likely hobby
Hobby
it's like playing with Legos, but building something that's actually functional and practical
additionally, there are several people in the house that will eventually need keyboards as well
it's not like a keyboard will go bad or out of date
might as well as getting them all setup during this keyboard "phase" that I'm in
daydreaming
some of my friends definitely possessed that skills during school
they tend to not do very well in classes though
can't be me
It can be me
okay, finally processed the last keyboard I've built on the 22nd
I went on a bender for transparent keyboards and the GamaKay SN75 was the first to arrive:
absolutely a gorgeous keyboard right out of the box:
ended up going with some purple switches, since this build will be for my wife:
as I was installing the switches, I discovered that the top plate was not screwed down even though the screw holes existed on the top case and screws were included:
ended up having the rip the entire keyboard apart to screw down the plate since we don't like floppy keyboards in this household
oh yeah, the keyboard came with an aluminum plate as well, but I've stuck to the PC plate since my wife doesn't like the sound DCX keycaps make against metal plates:
speaking of DCX keycaps, simple black on white:
que pro

4x speed video of the build process for the GamaKay SN75 keyboard.
and the typing test: https://youtu.be/uIHlfLOoGZ8
Really excited to put DCX keycaps on another build. Here's the typing test with the beautiful GamaKay SN75.
Board: GamaKay SN75 Sequin
Switches: Durock Medium Tactile, Clear Purple
Keycaps: Drop ABS Black-On-White DCX Profile
my wife is absolutely in love with the keyboard
just for @tall cliff and @winged patrol, I've also recorded an overexposed video of the keyboard lighting with just the switches:
appreciate it, thanks
looks very cool
Is that ring is an smart ring from Samsung's?
Oura
What it do?
where you see it in video
His finger
oh
Guess I'm not the only crazy person building custom keyboards for kids

this is keyboard with oled screen
sad the board is plastic
XVX = Womier
Not surprised
Out of the budget boards, you also have RK, Yunzii, and Epomaker
its insane how the budget keyboards are really good they dont feel budget anymore
it feels stealing legally
Totally, they sound great too
Probably the most blatant case of "theft" IMO
aren't the feel of keyboards depends on switches
Epomaker DynaTab 75: https://a.co/d/fg9VqLx
10000 mAh battery is crazy
vs. Angry Miao's $700+ Cyberboard: https://store.angrymiao.com/products/cyberboard-r2-1
That's part of it
How the keyboard is dampened, mounted
maybe plastic feels a little different
Material of the case itself
like plastic on my new mouse feels way more expensive than my previous one
And keycaps all make a difference
tho the difference is just under 10€
feels like g102 to me
but kinda better
But yeah, that's actually the big reason I have a wall of keyboards
I wanted to see how each setup looks, feels, and sounds different
im still forced to buy membrane keyboard now
just there is no green mechanical option for me anymore
tho membrane feels good
i still feel the press
and its silent
basically silent tactiles alternative
No
Definitely not
Anyways
You've successfully buried my response to @mortal venture
About the DynaTab 75 vs. Cyberboard
#1071070910989209661 message
atleast feels way better than mx red ones ¯_(ツ)_/¯
If you're talking about "Red" Linear switches...
Those are NOT silent tactiles
i meant that membrane atleast has feel to it compared to red linears
red linears are literally made for missinput
i hated them from first couple minutes of use
atleast im glad that it was keyboard in pc club
and not mine at home
That's not what you've stated here
Silent tactiles are not the same as linears
i compared membrane to silent tactiles
opp i meant really good
Which silent tactiles?
any
How can you compare if you've never typed on a silent tactile before?
why do you ask
Yeah, totally, so many new videos about it too
this one looks amazing but am sorry its too much
it might be better keybaord but simple looks what i prefer
i think akko or moon geek
idk if they are the same
they make super cheap ones but really good for the price
They're the same
Akko and Monsgeek are sister companies
Like the way HYTE and IBP are related
Monsgeek sells the "premium" keyboards to compete with Keychron
This was the video I had in mind: https://youtu.be/TcMG9FItrFw

I tried the most popular budget mechanical keyboard - the AULA F75...
But is it the BEST budget keyboard?

Aula F75 (best deal): https://epomake...
ive seen this one its nice for the price
Along with reviewing the Aula F75, Hipyo also dropped the names on a bunch of budget keyboards that he likes
Overall, the video was very funny
ALSO ik its not here to mention but i found y70 from official retailer sells hyte parts
or cases
for the same price a bit higher
so will change sooner
He really played on the "So you don't have to" (crossed out)
Oh, congrats
If you can get your hands on a #⌨-keeb-tkl as well
i want to buy 2 more keyboards beside they alice one i got
Not exactly a budget keyboard, but very good keyboard
was thinking about it really
if am getting it
it will be for the hyte love
It's more than that
After modding 4 now, it's just a great keyboard, period
I'm testing out all the acrylic case keyboards right now
I'll see if my opinion holds
am not really tryhard like you i just like to change switches at best
What options do you have? I don't think you're in the US
i hate taking the keybaord apart
yes iam not but ill find it somewhere
local stores
Even then, the "core" of the #⌨-keeb-tkl is just really well done
or maybe websites here
Where is "here" again?
asia east asian to be exact
K
Ducky makes some interesting keyboards
It was very weird getting something completely analog
Some people complain about how "outdated" Ducky keyboards are
But to me, it's like owning a part of history
What a great board looks and sounds like before all these fancy tech are added
Since you're not interested in taking apart the keyboard anyways, Ducky will be perfect for switches and keycaps swaps
MU01 from Akko
60% though
Crazy fun and affordable keyboard
ooo
i dont personally use 60%
but this one is tempting
also my sister use 60%
so she might like this one
my fav size is 75
tkl is fine but 75 what i love
I've done 2 of these now: #1071070910989209661 message
That's the Joy of Life version
And the Mountain Seclusion: #1071070910989209661 message
is the wood great ? am afraid if drop water on it or anything
The Joy of Life has the silent tactile switches
And the Mountain Seclusion has the standard tactile switches
Wood is perfect
am treating it as table 😭
Fun story, the keyboards come with wood oil
it became common to drop my coffee my green tea my water on my desk
ooo so the oil is a must
Unboxing photos: #1071070910989209661 message
I haven't needed it
Desk pad?
yesss always on the desk pad mines always get dirty
But yeah, I guess if you live somewhere super humid or super dry
i have alot i swap between always lazy to clean 😭
You may need to oil the wood
summer here is not fun
They usually wash off easily too
not in europe
No idea, I live in a climate controlled house
Weather is too crazy in Iowa
So yeah, my MU01 is doing fine
this goes to my basket yes
I've definitely read horror stories with wood keyboards
Like the ones people build themselves
But Akko is CNC machining solid blocks of wood
(walnut, to be exact)
maybe people use ikea type of wood then complain
Exactly, and get massive warp
But with treated hardwood
I don't see it was much of an issue
Budget?
Or just "best"?
75% custom mechanical keyboard made for professional work and gaming. The sonnet offers the best in looks sound and typing feel. Configure your keyboard from a variety of case colors and materials such as aluminum, copper and brass as well as plate and mounting options. Uses cherry mx style switches and keycaps.
i wanna see all
Hands down, one of the best looking keyboards on the market
But US based, so you may have trouble getting one
This is like ordering a high end car
i will check
You can literally pick out all the options
dont think i can get this one
unless maybe they ship
they do not really bad shipping price
Haha
hate it but its fine
That's how much I pay
seen worse
Better double check that's for international
this is total
but havent added any extra things to the keybaord like the colour
Sounds about right
I don't think that's international shipping
i did put international also the country
Wow
That's amazing then
If you're going this route
Be sure to hit up the extra parts section
where can i open ticket so i can have my hyte 70 shipped to me with less than 300 usd shipping price
#support
no am really joking dont want to do that omg 😭
But yeah, if you're going to get a shipment from Mode
Don't be a dummy like me
Grab ALL the extra parts in 1 order
this is the first us company for hardware dont charge me same price as the product
ill check on this
Especially grab some extra plates:
i was watching the cyborg
on the side
review
its really
deserves the title of overpriced keyboard
Cyberboard
Yeah
You're just literally paying for the price of flexing
Glad I'm not the only one with that opinion
But yeah, with the Sonnet, grab some extra accent pieces:
let me see
They're cheap and can really make a difference to make your keycaps pop
I would just order the Sonnet in a more neutral color
And then swap out the accent piece
But HUGE warning
You WILL have to build this thing yourself
This is NOT a prebuild
does the keyboard come with the switches? because i pref to use my own
i destory switches
No
then its ok
ive seen
Be sure to read this before proceeding this route: https://modedesigns.com/pages/sonnet-guide-2024
But yeah, my Mode Loop is hands down the best keyboard I own
This is some next level stuff
ill prob watch a tut on it and decide
Good idea
because
am really
bad
at this
i destory parts
so easily because am dummy
i hit things accidentally or froce something or do it wrong way
someday ill learn from my mistakes
Otherwise, the P1 is a good one: https://www.keychron.com/products/lemokey-p1-qmk-via-custom-gaming-keyboard
Lemokey P1 and its Pro version are 75% layout QMK/VIA custom gaming keyboards. i almost ruined my motherboard trying to flash my bios 😭
Keychron just made one of their best mechanical keyboards... But it's the Lemokey P1 and its CHEAPER than their other keyboards?!

Lemokey...
Hipyo complains a lot
ooo have seen this vid
And he was only able to complain about how good the keyboard is
its also nicely priced
And you have all the Keychron parts at your disposal
For me, a huge part of "premium" keyboards are the availability of parts
i want to see if they ship to me
But yes, if you like the P1, be sure to check out the various versions of Q1
P1 is the budget board
Q1 is the top of the line full aluminum keyboard
now that i know
Keychron Q1 Max is a full metal QMK/VIA wireless mechanical keyboard featuring 2.4 GHz and a 1000 Hz polling rate. Customize any key or create macro commands through VIA software as usual, and connect the Q1 Max with up to 3 devices through Bluetooth for seamless multitasking across Mac, Windows, and Linux.
so this one is the q version
or am i wrong
Yes and no
its all because of apple and now every product has pro max version
With the Max version, you will need the Pro plate:
atleast these are much easier to install
can the website stop asking me to login into paypal
i dont want to say may opinon about this colour
i love pink and purple but this one looks
i do love the colour but its no my taste
i really
cant shop
ill login just because i dont want to deal with it
i dont know whats the marketing strategy behind this but they won me and ill login
i might get this because i love white boards as they fit everywhere
but its not the max version for some reason no max version has white board
See if you have any luck with the barebone option
The options change with different switch options
You don't really want Keychron's stock switches and keycaps anyway
i love my creamy switches
The biggest difference between Pro and Max is the polling rate
wont be problem
i was seeing the moonsgeek counterpart
they both almost same price
Keychron gets you that knob
is it much better than the moonsgeek ?
Same
Monsgeek was literally created to compete with Keychron
So
Anyways
Starting at $69.99, the MonsGeek M1 V3 QMK/VIA International Version is once again aimed at enthusiasts, offering accessibility across the globe with more vivid color choices and comprehensive upgrades inside and out. look this
Do you get Shell White with the barebone option?
ill see now
the paypal issue made me want to not buy from them
tried to login but i forgot my password
I see
Monsgeek is great too
it does come white but also come with the paypal page
I would definitely recommend the M1 in a heartbeat
also the X to get rid of that paypal page is to right so ihave to drag my mouse
all they way
to the write
to close this and check
Here's my M5: #1071070910989209661 message
it looks more polished to me than the keychron
or atleast what i like
If that works for you
i think
keychron case has more hard edges
and looks i dont know
moons geek is rounded here
i know am complaining for dumb things
but i hate hard edges
Sounds like a plan
i found the moonsgeek in near store here so ill not suffere the shipping prices
Looking forward to all your upcoming builds

am just getting into this with basic knowledge and limited budget you dont want to look forward for me 😭
you want to make me go hard when ill prob destory alot
dont put much faith
Have more faith in yourself
@jolly coral Mr. Expert wanted to ask you if you the main differences between the M1W and the HE version of it
HE = Hall Effect
That's the magnetic switches
ug i was just reading about it
the boring switches
do they even make any difference when using ?
looks overhyped
Yes, they've been banned for gaming
ooo those the ones got banned in cs
Because they give an unfair advantage
So... Yeah, they're good for certain situations
And I have one ordered from Wooting myself
not worth doubling the price
Probably not
HE switches are all linear switches
more boring
Well, it's turning the entire keyboard into a pressure sensitive controller
Advantages are still limited to certain situations
maybe to people who play competitve way too serious
TBH, most normal people don't even benefit that much from the HE switches
But yeah, this goes back to the higher DPI, faster polling, and faster refresh rates
Whatever little edge you can get from equipment
most useless switches ever for ME
i like creamy sounds
@jolly coral if i was half competitve in these ranked games as iam in mobile game maybe 😭
clicky are not fun at all and gets annoying if you pay attention to it
atleast for me
There was this chart that I've found while having this discussion #⌨-keeb-tkl message
About the effect of switches on the 4 general descriptions keyboard sounds
But sound profile depends on the entire build, not just the switches
The low thocky sound profile is most easily achieved with plastic case, PC plate, crazy dampening, regular stem switches, and a tall profile (e.g. SA) ABS keycaps
its looks annoying to get thock with low pitch
Not really, just the cheapest components: plastic, plastic, and more plastic
Probably the most expensive part is finding SA ABS keycaps
@jolly coral Float 65 👀
I would do an Adam: https://kbdcraft.store/products/adam
The first model of KBDcraft mechanical keyboard with a lego case and a fully customizable keyboard Core. I PRODUCT PAGE: https://rama.works/KARAPREORDER OPEN FOR A LIMITED TIME (UNTIL DECEMBER 31ST)EXTRA MANUFACTURING SLOTS ARE AVAILABLE UNTIL EXHAUSTION PAST THIS DATE. NOTE: This is a PREORDER. Shipping will commence
That looks so boring....
You can always make it more exciting: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/145ovlp/first_custom_keyboard_and_lego_build_using/
It's just literally standard Lego pieces
Just missing a couple sets of switches that should be here soon, but going to get started with the big 7 keyboard swap:
Another great sounding aluminum 75% at ~$80 USD, but this time… with volume knob and prebuilt with BSUN switches 😍
This Monka A75 is from @keybay.tech and comes IN-STOCK in black + white so far! More colours coming ☺️
Unlike some other alu 75s I’ve tried, this isn’t quick release and only takes plate mount stabilizers. 🥹 But also alu keyboard...
75 usd for this
and sounds great out of the box
Pretty high pitched because of the metal body
But definitely thocky
As expected from a linear switches and a well dampened keyboard
its really quesntionable how its priced like this
maybe the battery is not too great or the software it whatever
No, I bought a couple aluminum boards that were under $100
Here is my Pink Tide 75: #1071070910989209661 message
And my Blue Tide 75: #1071070910989209661 message
And my most recent Black Tide 75 to just hold my stupid Awekeys keycaps: #1071070910989209661 message
(I really like the Tide 75)
If you prefer a more thocky sound though, the Galaxy 80 barebone is $55: https://a.co/d/emz8GN8
I couldn't stand the soft PC plate on the Galaxy80
i got these keycaps long ago and havent used them yet
ill try to get into the mode to change
@jolly coral how commonn are the HE switches?
because i have no other option are than buying the HE it looks like
Still pretty new, you essentially have 3 to choose from Gateron right now
am thinking abou t buying barebone HE
m1w v3
but it doesnt look like i have many options for switches
i also want the Magnetic switches because am very dumb i break one after one accidentally
ooooo the magnetic switches are way too expansive ............
i just checked the jdae Magnetic 😭
i just checked a store basically to have full switches for a 75 keyboard it costs 60 used
its fine .....
Nevermind, it's up to 7 now:
atleast there is a decent supplier in my country
ill go
with m1w v3 he
i hope i didnt go with the wrong board
Should be fine
It's an Akko board
HE keyboard main selling point is actually the software
That's where Keychron is currently struggling
am not interested very much into it
What you should be reviewing is the "driver" software
just because i found the he version on discount somehow
and its ver close to the normal m1w
There's not much hardware difference
its basically kind of upgrade with min price
but also i hope monsgeek hardware is fine
Definitely finr
But you need to realize, you're going to be stuck with linear switches
HE switches are all linear
its fine i have multiple keyboards at worst
@jolly coral half of my pc is gigabyte and GCC
is the worst software
to ever exists
thats where my ptsd comes from
my ram colours change raondomly
sometimes the motherboard rgb too
i love purple and blue 99% of the time this is my pc colour
then suddenly my ram is red
or different part

See video: https://youtu.be/96Zib-c_zFI?t=386
A Wireless Hall Effect Gaming Keyboard that is packed full of features. But how does it feel? It comes fitted with Akko Cream Yellow Magnetic Switches, 8000 Hz Wired Polling Rate, Wireless 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 5.0, and an assortment of features that take advantage of the benefits of Hall Effect technology.
For more details on the M1W-SP HE, you c...
I've got the timestamp with that link to the software discussion
Just realize that HE keyboards are complicated
Yeah, I've struggled with my RGB programming with my Gigabyte MB
am having the same issues
I just gave up
its less common now
i have my rams pink and purple today
so it became randomly all purple didnt notice it too much
atleast now its changing to only purple randomly
doesnt bother me as much
you know @jolly coral
so i was tilted of the colour change
i decided to use the colour it changes to
which was purple at the time
when i did that i started changing red
worst
SOFTWARE
Anyways
these HE setting page looks like headache
You shouldn't have that problem with the M1W
It sure is
Problem when there are too many customizations
Reminds me of my BMW M3
Especially when I was editing the module codes
Anyways
sorry am just looking before hitting buy
because i hate buying things i want to buy
you will hate me
i ended up with m1w v3 no HE
i just dont want to deal with headache and i want to have more options for the switches
its from the official akko store on aliexpress
avoided shipping prices
i got the fullu built because i want they keycaps plus the switches look nicr never seen these piano pro switches before
They're cheap linear switches
The MU01 had them: #1071070910989209661 message
if i dont like them ill change
but from sound tests they were nice
They sound and type fine, but extremely poor construction making them very difficult to pull off the keyboard
Like the switches literally break when you pull
The housing material on the switches are like paper thin
its fine i ruin them anyways 😭
i ruin atleast 5 to 6 witches every time i replace
And you won't have enough replacements, since you get the exact amount of switches with pre-builts
So literally, single use switches
yes they will die once i pull them out
atleast the board was on big discount
30% off
it was the price of barebone with fully built
also wanted these keycaps
so its worth the deal and RIP the switches in advance
also i dont know why akko store has this discount in ali but not their website -_-
the merchant is the official akko

I have the purple set
Better than the aweful metal keycaps
The set that I really want from them: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/world-s-first-blue-and-white-ceramic-keycap-set#/
Not sure whatever happened to this set
Hands down, most interesting switch tester: https://duckeys.com/products/quackey-fidget-toy-that-quacks
I have it
Kinda have
No, that's not the same thing
Ducky and Duckeys are two different companies
I mean it's like same same but different
Ye ik just similar keycap I meant
Dang it, got hit by the Black Diamond 75 ad again: https://store.angrymiao.com/products/black-diamond-75
Maybe the orange on black DCX keycaps: https://drop.com/buy/drop-dcx-skiidata-keycap-set
Ooo, maybe throw the HYTE Songque keycaps on it
I think I know the timeline for purchasing the BD75
Found the perfect set to go with the BD75: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807131079600.html
Looks like the timeline may be bumped up
Side print and a nice color scheme:
I wonder why it's called "Horizon Theme"
Beautiful
One of the most beautiful keyboard I have seen
Well I am guessing price isn't beautiful as the keyboard
Angry Miao's other keyboard is much much more expensive
730$?
For keyboard?
Hell nah
But it's the Cyberboard
Exactly, nothing screams that you're irresponsible with money like the Cyberboard 💸
keyboard update time
I've completed the keycaps swaps for the pair of NK87
the loud ping from the 7U space bar was really bothering me
so I ended up take off the dye-sub pudding keycaps and replaced them with Drop's DCX keycaps, starting with the Alien Green NK87 going from EVA-01 to Emerald:
Novelkeys NK87 Alien Green with Emerald DCX, unlit:

Novelkeys NK87 Nebula Pink with Violac DCX, lit + no ambient lighting:
the 7U spacebar was still pinging really badly, despite switching over to doubleshot ABS keycaps
so I ended up doing some "arts and crafts" and made my own dampener from some leftover EVA foam:
ended up doing the typing test 3 times: PBT Pudding Keycaps, ABS Keycaps, and ABS keycaps with the dampened 7U spacebar: https://youtu.be/ci1H0YTLUqc
Combined 3x 1-minute typing tests before and after swapping the keycaps on the NovelKeys NK87 Alient Green keyboard. Ended up added foam to the 7U spacebar.

the sound profile definitely improved after adding the dampener to the space bar
I've learned to really hate the 7U spacebar layout

This looks fun

Makes me think of Etherium from MTG
makes me want to build it for an MTG themed keyboard to match my Artifact deck
Yeah, I saw it. Been getting hit by ads hard while trying to purchase the BD87. Completely not my aesthetics, so my wallet has been spared.
Matches well with GravaStar's mice
Wait, is that the Purple or the Silver M1?
silver
Based on the stock keycaps, it looks like the Silver
room lights
K
Typical for all metal
it may be heavy but that gives it the luxury feeling
Yup
also my alice keyboard is being shipped by pigeon 😭😭😭😭
i ordered my monsgeek 2 or 3 days after
it arrived before it
yeeeess
they picked up the worst logistics company
in my country
you know they will also charge me like 5% of the price
monsgeek picked the best one
didnt have to pay
Akko is really about that
Anyways, here's my M5: #1071070910989209661 message
Also in Silver

turn up the DPI on your mouse so you don't have to move your mouse as much?
shh cant used to mine by now i game on it
stop finding solutions that needs time for me to get used to it 😤
i had time to test it now
and i can it really feels like a solid keyboard
really feels luxurious
also can be used to kill someone since its so heavy
if someone coming to me ill hit them with the keyboard
Nice
Nah, at most people will lose memory
Full metal?

2kg almost
i dont have a scale right now
No no no

Oh wow, looks like Glorious has a new configurator for their GMMK 3 keyboards: https://www.gloriousgaming.com/products/gmmk-3-configurator
Looks and feels a lot like Mode's thing
And there's also a accessories page as well if you want extra parts: https://www.gloriousgaming.com/collections/gmmk-3-accessories
@jolly coral HELP
KEYBAORD NOT KEYBAORDING
I’m helping my friend build a keyboard but the keycaps this board came with aren’t fitting??
Which keyboard and which keycaps?
Some brands like ASUS have custom stems
KBFcraft 001 Adam keyboard
The keycaps it came with don’t fit
At least the shift ones

Wait, you're using the ones from the kit?
It should fit
Yes
They don’t
I can stream the keybaord
What's not fitting?
If it helps
Picture
I can tell enough from pictures
Dang it, it's about time I ordered an Adam
Let me punch in an order now
I see this for Adam's 60% layout:
Both keys?
That's weird because one is stabilized and one is just a normal R4 keycap
Anyways, just ordered one of everything from them:
Dang it, going to take a week to get to me
But, just enough time for me to get some switches
Haha
Yea
I’m starting from scratch again
XD
So.. @jolly coral after removing the supports for the shift
It holds the one nub shifts
But refuses to hold the 3 ones

You mean the stabilized
Yes
Shift on the left
Did the stabilizer come pre-installed or you had to install them yourself?
I had to myself
But all the others worked fine
Give it a good push
Everything looks good
Could be just tight because it doesn't look like you've lubed the stabilizers
Problem is it prevents the Z button from actually working

I’ve never seen this problem before
No. The yellow one is from a different keycap. But with the stabilizers the ORIGINAL grey keycaps don’t fit either

I FOUND A RANDOM 3rd SHIFT KEY
WHY ARE THERE 3
The third one is the new one I found
Which…fits
60% board nonsense
Anything to squeeze out an extra key somewhere
You'll need a big kit (like the 165) to find the weird size keys like the 2u shift
Reminds me of my struggle with the 7u spacebar on the NK87
Joys of building keyboards
Looks like I have a Lilith and Adam coming now
Switch shopping time!
Yay!!
Ended up grabbing another set of the Jerrzi Tactile switches: https://a.co/d/higfIAA
$12 for 70 after a 40% coupon
Used them for the MU01 I'm going to give away: #1071070910989209661 message
Really great experience with them for the 60% MU01 build, and since I'm giving the keyboard away
I don't actually have these switches on a keyboard in the house
Perfect for the Lilith keyboard
Probably going to spend hours on here after the KBDFan keyboards arrive: https://www.lego.com/en-us/pick-and-build/pick-a-brick
There's no limit on what you can build! Search for that special brick online, order your selected pieces and complete your masterpiece. It's easy as 1, 2, 3!

Realized the letters of keycaps I'm using don't pop as much because of north facing led on switches, also realized I don't like the letters brighter when trying south facing led, kinda ruins the magic 🍒
How do you finance all those keyboards? Are you selling them after you build them or do you just have a big stock of finished keyboards?
No, I keep most of them, except for the couple that I've built as gifts like the MU01 (#1071070910989209661 message) and the Pooh Q6 Max (#1071070910989209661 message)
so yeah, I just have a big stock of finished keyboards like the ones on my wall:
and in my wife's office
my wife's complaining right now, so I've worked out a solution for storing her keyboards in her office
I'll post more about it when I have it done
Damn that looks sick
Kinda reminds me of myself with building steering wheels
Building more and more but I‘m still using only 1
like gaming steering wheels?
Yeah for Simracing
I love it!
there are so many wheels to choose from now
especially since Thrustmaster started allowing the attachment of real steering wheels to the base
Yeah exactly
My want to build list is endless
yeah... just when I thought I would stop, I ordered a few more keyboards
Hahaha
Classic
I told myself to not build too many in the next few months, but now I ended up with three projects which are all very expensive
haha
So yeah less wheels, but higher quality and costs
speaking of simracing, this news: https://www.thedrive.com/news/sim-racing-giant-fanatec-in-trouble-as-parent-company-files-for-bankruptcy
guess one of the players is out
Luckily not
Never had a fanatec
It‘s quite a pain to use it with diy wheels
As fanatec wants you to use their own steering wheels
yeah, most people I know uses Thrustmaster
since I'm not that serious about simracing, I just have an old G29
I had a Thrustmaster, but I switched to Direct drive 2 yesrs ago
I've been really itching to get a motion sim though
been drooling over a DOF system for a while now: https://dofreality.com/
but finding the space for it will be challenging
when most of the space in the house is occupied by kid's toys
Yeah those motion rigs are nice
But so expensive
for me, it's mostly down to safety with young kids around
those actuators produces a lot of force
and can seriously injure a young child
Oh yeah understandable
Luckily there are kill switches
I definitely want them to learn on motion sim rig before hopping into real cars in the garage
anyways, getting super #off-topic for the keyboard thread
I kinda learned driving with my sim and idk I always find the irl cars to slow hahaha
My parents don‘t like my driving style
haven't posted in a while, but I've finally finished all 7 tasks listed out a couple weeks ago.
here's the picture of all 7 keyboards: #1071070910989209661 message
and the pair of NKs (Task #4 and #5) were completed here: #1071070910989209661 message
Task #1, #3, and #6 were all kind of related since parts were swapped between the keyboards along with some new parts
but I'll begin with #3, the Epomaker RT100:
it was a "summer" theme build with Kailh Box Summer switches and dye-sub summer pudding keycaps
since the keyboard itself is green and I absolutely hate the keyboard itself, I ended up moving the Beer switches and the transparent Emerald keycaps onto this dread keyboard
this switch + keycap combo was original on the Ducky One 3, and the combo was ruining my desire to every use the Ducky One 3
and I really want to use the Ducky One 3
anyways, threw the Beer switches onto RT100:
and then on goes the transparent emerald keycaps:

4x speed video of the switches and keycaps swap for the Epomaker RT100 keyboard.
and the typing test: https://youtu.be/t5TWUmUmR48
Did a quick 1-minute typing test and smashed all the stabilized keys with an Epomaker RT100 keyboard after swapping the keycaps and switches.
Board: Epomaker RT100
Switches: Gateron Beer
Keycaps: Redqin PC Green Emerald Transparent Cherry Profile
awful set of switches, but perfect fit now with the awful keyboard
Task #6 involved a straight forward swapping of the switches from Kailh Box Pink to the Kailh Box Summer that just came off the RT100:
the Kailh Box Summer switches still remains one of the prettier switches on the market (much like the disappointing Beer switches):
due to the light blue transparent housing on the switches, the RGB backlight gains a blue hue to even the rainbow color:
threw the mahjong keycaps back onto the FE104, and here's the iROK FE104 with box Summer switches and mahjong keycaps, unlit:

iROK FE104 typing test after swapping the swtiches from Box Pink to Box Summer.
Board: iROK FE104 White
Switches: Kailh Box Summer
Keycaps: PBT Mahjong Theme Cherry Profile
absolutely love typing on clicky switches
and the Box Summer sound is just a little bit less annoying than the crazy loud Box Pink switches: https://youtu.be/ggiorvJc12k
Finally got the iROK FE104 back from work and decided to swap out the keycaps. Here's the after swap typing test with Cherry profile keycaps.
Board: iROK FE104 White
Switches: Kailh Box Pink
Keycaps: PBT Mahjong Theme Cherry Profile
at this point, I have a couple hundred Box Pink switches sitting in a big ziplock bag
so glad that my wife has outgrown these
finally, task #1 ended up taking the longest to complete:
after pulling the Beer switches and emerald keycaps for the RT100
I finally pulled out my Holy Panda switches:
pretty excited by these given all the raving reviews and now a clear 5-pin housing:
and then I've realized, I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH F***ING SWITCHES, ended up ordering a set of Halo Switches from Aamzon to complete the last 4 above the numpad:
the Halo were 3-pin:
after pressing on both, I can see why Holy Panda gets its reputation
the tactile is much better even though the Halo has a strong tactile force
Halo switches were just heavy, but the tactile feel just isn't quite as good
anyways, got some White Jade keycaps from XVX:
I ordered it because of the SA profile and it looks perfect for an all white build

and the typing test: https://youtu.be/5ADs3SC98iU
Did a quick 1-minute typing test and smashed all the stabilized keys with a Ducky One 3 Aura keyboard after swapping the keycaps and switches.
Board: Ducky One 3 Aura White
Switches: Drop Holy Panda X Clear
Keycaps: XVX Double Shot PBT White Jade SA Profile
I absolutely love this build
the taller keycaps were a perfect fit for the Ducky One 3 sound profile
and the nice diffusion of backlight looks so good through the White Jade keycaps
so glad I've finally found a good combination for the Ducky One 3
the Holy Panda switches really does deserve its reputation
excellent feeling tactile switches that's smooth and responsive
finally, a couple more transparent keyboards (as I've mentioned, I went on a transparent keyboard bender #1071070910989209661 message)
Completed Task #2 and built the idobao ID87 that I've ordered from CandyKeys in Germany:
unfortunately, Drop only has the ID80: https://drop.com/buy/idobao-id80-crystal-gasket-keyboard-kit-drop-exclusive
and I really wanted the more traditional 80%/TKL layout
anyways, wasn't immediately sure why a "parts box" was needed:
turns out, this is a premium board and I will need to build the keyboard from nearly scratch:
at least the stabilizers came installed
installing the silicone gasket was a pain in the butt:
mounted the plate to the PCB:
really wanted to try out these Durock Ice King tactile switches with 68g (heavy) progressive springs:
really pretty 5-pin switches:
and looks fantastic on the ID87:
the light guide works well:
installed the bottom acrylic case:
and the top case went on:
really beautiful keyboard
ended up getting a set of hi-ground topo dupes from XVX:
glad XVX exists to make these knock-offs because I really didn't want to buy a hi-ground keyboard just to get their topo keycaps
as I was installing the keycaps, I've noticed that I had failed to lube the stabs
joys of building a "premium" keyboard: you have to do everything yourself

anyways, drowned the stabs in lube:
and the topo keycaps went on:
