#Piggy Island is real, and I think I know where it is.

As a big fan of Angry Birds, I’d honestly love to visit Piggy Island. I started getting curious as to where Piggy Island could actually be in the real world, and that’s when I started researching.

My first main clue was in the original Angry Birds Rio Trailer from 2011, when the birds are locked in a cage and are (actually) sent to Brazil through a helicopter ride. It is shown in the trailer that the helicopter is going Northwest to Rio De Janeiro. This meant that Piggy Island would be somewhere in the Southern Atlantic Ocean.

But I wouldn’t stop there. I decided to skip to the very end of the same game, when the engines of the plane failed after Nigel is pulled into it. Despite the failed engine, however, the Angry Birds still made it back to the island successfully. A damaged plane can usually keep flying 70 miles before crashing according to research.

With this in mind, I decided to look for a southeastern island closest to Rio, and found an Island, known as Annenkov Island. The island is about 2,200 miles away from Rio (according to Google Earth), remove 70 miles (the amount of mile the plane likely flew after the engines failed) which would give us 2,130 miles. Assuming the plane was going 80mph, this means the plane was flying for about 27 hours before the engines failed.

When looking at a satellite images of Annenkov Island, it actually looks really similar to Piggy Island, with the only major difference being the missing Head Hog Mountain, which is the Snout-shaped Mountain in the center of Piggy Island.

In conclusion, if you’re a big Angry Birds fan hoping to plan a trip, go to Annenkov Islands. Make sure you have a Slingshot handy.
