At its current state, Oaklands suffers a lot from server side lag (slow elevators, logic taking a while to update, items moving at a snail's pace, etc.) Here's a few suggestions to improve lag!
1: Loose items in plots
Large plots with tons of loose items are one of the biggest sources of lag in the game. Here's a few possible fixes to that!
- automatically anchoring anything loose when the player disconnects
- deleting any trees and stones that are unanchored when the player disconnects (items such as discs and duckies will not be deleted)
To help with anchoring, make the anchoring tool in the build menu work like the blueprint selection, where you can anchor everything within a box!
2: Loose objects around the map
Loose items forgotten by other players can also cause a lot of lag. Here's some fixes!
- deleting loose items out of everyone's render distance after 5 minutes of inactivity
- making loose items outside plots public after 5 minutes, then deleting them after another 5 minutes
(this also makes losing a truck full of material extra risky, so I'd understand not wanting to use this feature)
3: Setting to only load plots when within 30 studs of them
This is a less aggressive way to deal with lag coming from bases, but is definitely much harder to implement.
