it’s… the colors of your Splatfest team?

#

It’s literally a battle between the 3 sides of the Splatfest: Nessie (green), Aliens (purple), and Bigfoot (Orange)

#

Each Splatfest team has a color assigned to them, and you have to choose one to participate and you can’t change

#

In addition, it’s called “Tricolor Battle” because there’s three teams, and thus three colors

#

It’s easy to tell which team is which because of the HUD on top of the screen, your personal ink color, and the intros to battles which not only show you your colors but also explicitly which teams everyone is on

#

There’s two “sides” to Tricolors, which are Attackers and Defenders. Defenders are a team of four players from a single Splatfest team who have to defend turf and win against two teams of two Attackers each, who represent the other two Splatfest teams and work to get a higher turf percentage than the defending team.

You may have been getting different colors because of mirror matches- if the game couldn't find enough players from other teams, they'll match players from the same team and assign each random colors, which can result in you not being your team's color.

Though the colors they’re describing seem to be the fest colors

Noticed that that's been happening quite a bit, alien is pretty popular. I'd guess 40-45%ish

#

Yeah, in tricolor the color scheme is still locked to green/purple/orange, even in mirror matches.

I don’t play enough tricolors to fully recognize that myself agent3sip

Alien’s really popular

#

99% of the time, if it’s not alien, it’s nessie
