So in the event of mod mail being down, what are we supposed to do?

modmail is a convenience that allows you to remain anonymous. Before modmail (and even now) you're welcome to DM, @ a mod that is online, or @ the mod role. We do not mind, nor will we get mad at you for using any of those methods (unless it's being abused of course)
