I accidentally forgot to remove the (1) from the firmware file and now I can't upload another firmware file, how bad is it?

It is borked indeed. You could try to force the board to the bootloader mode according to these instructions from Maverick

Are you able to connect to that site?
If so, set the baud to 1200
