those are 1.8TB 2.5" drives, they're fairly old, but I don't think they need to be replaced, can anyone confirm?

if the disk needs replacing, ONTAP will fail it so you can be sure to notice. As long as the disk is not "failed", I would see no need to replace it

Maybe check that scrubbing is enabled and running ?
