#SG5712 expansion?

Hi there, we have a small Grid with a bunch of SG5712 storage nodes. This consists of a E2800 Simplex controller noder, which has two SAS12 ports for Expansions...
If you look at the small E2800 with 8GB (which this is) acording to HWU you can add additional disk shelfs to this... But if you look up the SF5712 where isn't any additional shelfs here...
What would happen if we added another DS212C shelf to the E2800 ? My guess is that it would at least see the disks, but would StorageGRID be able to use them? And would the nice configuration wizard even work? (I tried this when adding shelfs to a SG6060 which has the Duplex E2800, and you are able to add two additional DS460C shelfs to this... and the wizard just "fixes" everything for you... very nice...) I am aware that adding shelfs to the SG5712 most likely isn't supported which doesn't matter to us that much, basically we are just curious 😉

Since StorageGRID does nto support expansion shelves on this model, StorageGRID will not recognize the new storage

It does have the cutest little memory modules 😉 The top one is a standard module, the one below is from the StorageGrid node 🙂 Guess there wasn't space for SO-DIMMS 😉

...just realized that the SG5712X has a slightly more powerful E-Series... as I can see that the E2864 has similar ports installed... so you cannot just replace the SO-DIMMS from 8GB to 32GB 😉

There was a shortage of some component during the pandemic and then we had to come up with the X model

Any idea why NetApp doesn't allow adding shelfs to the storage controller as it is possible on the same E2812 Simplex 8G model? Do they just want to sell you the SG6060? 😉 Which is a cool setup, I really like installing these because everything is scripted... even when you add an additional shelf to the system, it handles everything for you... very nice 🙂 ONTAP could learn something here 😉

...guess it's because of marketing more than anything else? 😉
