Additionally I would suggest to draw a cabling plan of the current configuration plus the final configuration. Since the 3132Q-V are mostly used with 40Gb QSFP check what the planned connection for the BES-53248 is. Usually you use 25Gb SFP28 or 100Gb QSFP28. So make sure you have the necessary and supported SFPs for your current nodes.

Please provide better information

Are you upgrading switch firmware or upgrading from an old switch (nexus 3132) to a new switch switch (BES) or a combination?

If you can provide exactly what you want to do we can likely give you the info.

Also indicate the current switch configuration (os/firmware version, RCF version) and ONTAP version

#

I have done hundreds of switch updates and many switch hardware upgrades ( cn1610 -> nexus or nexus-> bes or even nexus3132 -> nexus 9336).

Planning for upgrading switch firmware

#

No I'm doing old switch only.
Not doing any migration

ah ok... well that's much easier

#

As TMAC mentioned please provide more information. It's difficult to help otherwise.

#

General update documentation is here:

First go to https://hwu.netapp.com/ and check what ONTAP version is compatible with which switch firmware version.
Also you should only use the switch firmware versions mentioned in HWU, you can't use any other version. Otherwise the configuration is not supported.

#

N5K-C56UP is no cluster switch for NetApp controllers. So simply use the official Cisco guide for that.

We still need a starting and end point:
current ONTAP version. Current EFOS (switch os/firmware) version. Current RCF version

From the starting point we can deduce an end point. Occasionally multi hops are needed, though recently NetApp has been updating qualifications to broaden the use of the RCF

#

If properly connected, you can get the EFOS from ONTAP
system switch Ethernet show

Then if you ssh to the switch, the banner should indicate the RCF version (unless someone modified it)

#

You don’t need to log into the switch, just ssh to it to view the banner
