We have a customer with two set of ASA C800's setup in a SMas setup with VMware datastores presented via iSCSI.
We now need to setup another server with iSCSI LUNs but not via VMware. What would be the recommendation here? Do we just create a new volume/LUN in side the same SVM or will this cause issues with OTV ?
...or do we create a new SVM and setup SMas on that? (we need new iSCSI LIFs...)

I don't think it should be an issue if you add the LUNs to the existing SVM while managing everything with CLI / System Manager (of course make sure you're using different consistency groups if you need them). But I'm unsure how OTV would react especially since SMas is involved. The less complexity you introduce the better.

If you don't have too many SVMs already and can easily create new VLANs I usually like to separate different workloads. Creating a new SVM plus new VLANs doesn't take too long and there shouldn't be many settings you need to reconfigure (since it's SAN not NAS). But it often helps with troubleshooting in the future.
