#What if C60 has one 2-port 40/100GbE I/O module

The installation guide below indcates how we should cable ports (e2b and e4b) for host connections in the scenario of if we have two 2-ports 100GbE I/O module.

However, what if we only have single 2-port 100GbE I/O module? we should use e4a and e4b in this scenario. But, the installation guide did not mention this option.

Can you please confirm that we can use single 2-port, in which e4a and e4b will be used for respect two different switches?

im confused.. how many PCI cards do you have in the chassis ? are you going to run a 2 node switchless cluster ? are you saying you only have a single 2 port 100gb card in slot 4 of each conroller ?

He posted in here at least 3 times because someone forgot to put frontend network cards in his quote. I wouldn't be surprised if this is simply the 4th time and he, again, is stuck without frontend network 😄

How is it even possible to quote a system without frontend network? Makes no sense 🙂

@gritty quarry If you have **identical ** modules in both slots 2 & 4, then cluster+HA will be spread across both. As such, e2a and e4a will be your cluster+HA connections. The remaining e4b & e2b ports can be used for front-end network attachment.

#

However, if you have **mismatched **adapters in slots 2 & 4 (say, a 2-port 25GbE in slot 2 and a 4-port 25GbE in slot 4), then cluster+HA will remain on ports e4a & e4b. However, in this example configuration, ports e4c & e4d can be used for front-end attachment.

I hope that that helps b/c that is design intention for all of the current 2U systems that support 4x I/O modules.

@warm zealot I am sorry for being slow. But , can single card 2-ports be connected to respective inter-cluster switch and data switch? Can you please provide support documentation? If yes, we can have full redundancy. Slot 2 and slot 4 already has one card installed in each

can you tell us exactly what cards are installed in slot 2 and slot 4?
You can also check HWU for "supported connections" to see what is supported where

slot 2 and slot 4 both has "Dual 40G/100G Ethernet Controller CX6-DX", so, I guess, as Scott indcated, we can use 2-port on the single physical card for connecting cluster switch and data switch?

so... you have exactly the scenario that is shown in the image that you posted above? What is still unclear after looking at that picture?

2a/4a are the combined cluster&ha ports. You are free to use 2b & 4b for data.

If I am not mistaken, ONTAP will also enable PFC (Priority Flow Control) on the cluster ports.

Thank you all and @warm zealot !
