I can see that you can order up to two 2TB performance modules for the F50 X3316A which just looks like NVMe disks placed at the far end of the shelf? But isn't there any internal NVMe like we have on the FAS27xx ? And how much difference will this actually make on a snapmirror target with 60 x 24TB NL-SAS ?

The FAS50 has 2x FlashCache modules in slots 0 and 23. It's basically the same as with FlashCache modules in other FAS models only that they are not located internally on the motherboard via M.2 but externally via U.2. Apart from that everything should be the same afaik.

FAS2720 --> 2TB (per HA-pair)
FAS50 --> 4TB (per HA-pair)

When the FAS50 got released you could not use the other 22x slots. Since some weeks it's now supported to fill up the 22x slots with NVMe SSDs but you need ONTAP 9.17.1 for that. Also you still can't connect any NVMe-shelves to the FAS50.

I don't think these FlashCache modules will be too relevant if this system is being used as a SnapMirror target because FlashCache is a read-cache. You won't be able to cache your incoming writes.
But of course the FAS50 is much newer with more performant CPUs, more RAM, etc. so 60x24TB NL-SAS should be no problem.

OK, so the FlashCache modules are added to the system regardless of the fact that X3316A isn't mentioned on the price quote?

yeah we noticed that too. Not on the quote, not on the package slip

I don't know if it's intentional or not
