#ontap software download

I would like to download new ontap packages using ansible from mysupport.netapp.com. I can't just download the package because the portal wants to verify my account using a otp. Is there a solution for this? Can https://mysupport.netapp.com/site/support/support-api be extended to support downloading ontap packages?

I have a valid account for mysupport.netapp.com by the way. I also have a valid support contract on the serial numbers of our clusters.

I have submitted a feature request to our technical account manager but he didn't understand.

you cannot download ONTAP without logging in. Your best bet is to manually download ONTAP and put it on your own http server somewhere, and let Ansible pull it from there

The goal is to automate processes. I am fine with logging in if the method of logging in is supported with for instance ansible.builtin.uri. module or the rest API. I can create a support case with https://mysupport.netapp.com/site/support/support-api using a access token. This could also make it possible to download software packages.

yeah, again, I don''t think it is possible. We have done it in the past using Selenium but it was very brittle (broke every time the website was changed even slightly)

if you find an API that works let me know 🙂

Long term, this is a “maybe.”
I’m not aware of any active development on this right now, though I agree it would be a really awesome addition for this use.

we've been uploading most ONTAP images into a public S3 bucket where they can be downloaded from everywhere on the internet, provided that you know the correct URL ... very helpful when you're stuck in a datacenter and need to update something real quick for example

@runic bobcat I know right now it's not possible. I am asking the Netapp company in this feature-request forum to make this possible on the netapp support-site in a feature request.

well, the only correct answer to that is: always file a Feature Request if you're missing a feature. Only if enough people do that will there be any traction to implement it. And as @supple trench said, there's not much development in this direction right now.

For the official feature request (fepvr) work with your account team to file it in our internal system.

Hi Andy. Yes that would be nice. @woeful kestrel I have tried to submit a feature request with my account team but I never heard back from them.
