#Meaning DS Shelf and NS Shelf
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Yep, that's it. The DS shelves are SAS, and the NS shelves are NVMe
Or, if you really want to go deeper, the DSxxxx shelves are SAS, and the DS14MK2 and DS14MK4 shelves are Fiber Channel. There were earlier shelves, but that was before my time.
and DE is for E-Series
The model numbers also contain info -
i.e.
DS2246. - Disk Shelf 2U 24 drives 6GBs
DS224c is 2U 24 drives 12GBs (12 = c in hex)
Thank you for the explanation. I‘m currently writing a internal blog post for FAS vs C series and do not want to make a wrong statement 🙈 First I was thinking that DS means Direct Storage and NS network storage 😅
Ah good to know about the c at the end
that is how they funtion technically 🙂
NetApp shelf naming method
DS4243
DS = Disk Shelf
4 = 4U size
24 = Number of Disks in the shelf
3 = IOM3
etc
there's also the FS4483 (as FS4483NSM16E and FS4483PSM3E variants) but it's debatable whether that counts as a shelf or not 😉
(cough: DS4486)
