I would just like some insight into upgrading ONTAP... Currently have FAS2750 running ONTAP 9.12.1 P6 and need to upgrade. Latest Recommended version is 9.16 P4.
is it safe to upgrade directly to this version or would it be advisable to Step up the upgrade, i.e. go to 9.13 then 9.14 etc....
Would like some advice here please

You don't need to go to another major version, a direct update from 9.12.1 to 9.16.1 is possible.

Are you sure? I think you can only jump 2 major versions at a time... so I think it's 9.12 -> 9.14 -> 9.16 ?

But what's usually recommended is to go to the lastest patch-version within your major-version first and only then update to the next major version. So like 9.12.1P6 --> 9.12.1P17/18 and then another update to 9.16.1P4. It's not mandatory but I would invest another hour to update like this.
