For some reason we got an IOM12 in a DS2246 shelf.
I plan to upgrade the FW to the latest release for IOM12.

I guess it shouldn't be a problem but I just wanted to make sure...

Yeah, this will work without any issues

I don’t know if it works on 9.16 though since sas2(ds2246 shelf) is removed in ONTAP

hm right you might need to set a bootflag so that it works. I think IOM12 in the old shelves should work without, but I'm not sure

The sas2 shelves (4486/ds4246/ds2246) even with the iom12 won’t pass some information (especially tins like shelf environmental info)

yeah, then @sudden badger needs the FPVR to get them supported again (or I can DM you the bootarg, but you are on your own if something breaks and you don't have an active FPVR 😄 )

Hmm exciting news... But we are good up to 9.15 atleast?
Appreciate the support on discord, you guys are doing awesome work (y)

yeah, 9.15 is safe, it's only 9.16 that removes the IOM6 support

but the SAS2 disks still work so not the whole protocol has been removed. All that was removed was the abillity to see/manage the SAS2 based shelves (and even there, "removed" is probably too harsh of a word, I would rather call it "disabled" since you can easily get the functionality back)

and disks in IOM6 based SAS2 shelves also still work in 9.16 🙂
