Hi All, noticed that new ASA r2 systems are different from traditional ONTAP architecture and one of key differences is availability zones.

Most of document explaining that AZ has access to all drives across and HA-pair and work as a common storage pool.

But couldn’t find any information related to how the data protects against drive failures, performance improvements compared to traditional RAID based aggregates, etc.

Is this similar to DDP technology used in SANtrycity?

Seeking support to understand and looking for more information about this.

there is no change in the underlying RAID. It's still RAID-DP. It's just that the RAID stripes are now distributed across the nodes instead of belonging to a single node

no ADP, because why would you need it if the RAID stripes are already shared between the two nodes

currently RAID-DP only AFAIK. but probably RAID-TEC sooner rather than later
