We performed ONTAP upgrade from 9.11.1p11 to 9.14.1p9, as the result, the space got reduced by 80TB which is >7% of our used space. Are you aware of any reasons?

Upon ONTAP release notes, I found an enhacement below in 9.12.1:

• Storage capacity enhancements WAFL Space Reservation has been significantly reduced, providing up to 400 TiB more usable capacity per aggregate.

Could it be the reason? 400TB may be a maximum. Is there any way can we figure out how much really we can gain based on the size of an aggregate?

what do you mean "space got reduced"? You should have more free space after the upgrade (and the same space reported as used)

Aggrs above 30TiB size have 10% WAFL reserve before 9.12.1 on AFF (9.14.1 with FAS). Beginning with 9.12.1 (9.14.1) only 5% is being used.

yeah, that increases space, not decreases it. That's why I'm confused 🙂

Where do you see the "400 TiB more usable capacity per aggr" claim? It should be a typo because at most 40TiB is possible for 800TiB aggrs.
