I have this issue and was wondering if anyone has the Diagnostic commands or procedure to fix the /var directory issue. The restore from backup along with performing Option #6 from the boot menu show to be successful. Controller node does boot to waiting for giveback but the giveback fails.

I would probably try the option 6 again first, to see if that fixes it

jsut to be clear, you had a new boot device installed and then did a netboot and option 7 to install the ONTAP image onto it, correct?

This is a FAS8300. Replaced boot device, used USB stick with matched Ontap image to boot and restore Ontap image to the boot device. Followed procedure using NetApp documentation. At point of restoring /var filesystem using the backup file stored in the cluster. Said it was successful but still not working so I attempted option #6 and it said it was successful. Tried option #6 3 times with no change. Node is booting to "waiting for giveback" however during giveback, it fails and takes back over. The impaired node boots to a login but when logging in as admin, you are at a generic cluster with a error message that only partial /var exists.

No NetApp support agreement so was looking for help with any diagnostic commands/procedure that is needed to fix the missing /var files. These seems to be a known rare issue as the document I shared indicates.
