How would that help decreasing the RAID tax? You still need RAID-protection, doesn't matter if the disks are partitioned or full.
If your current aggr consists of partitioned disks most often it makes more sense to also partition the new disks and then add them to the current RAID-group (if max-raid-size has not yet been hit). You "lose" the tiny P3 part but that's negligible.
but it wouldn't feel as bad as having 4x 30TB SSDs doing nothing. 🙂
The problem is you cannot have disks that have partitions belonging to both clusters (or rather it's not supported)... 😅
With MCC-IP it’s far less of a technical hurdle..
But as you say, still not supported, and even if you abstract the sectors into partitions and spare them that way, it’s still just one physical device. Iirc there is some initiatives around continuing to use partially failed large Ssds, but I don’t think it’s been formalised by vendors yet how that might work, so it’s a long time away in my opinion
