It seems like upgrading from 5.0 to 6.0 isn't as easy as expected... the Windows Hosts have new requirements on both NET Core 8.0.5, PowerShell Core 7.4.2 and Java 11 Oracle Java and OpenJDK (auch)... .net and PS are failrly easy to "fix" yet they might require reboot of the host... does anyone know why Java is introduced as a requirement? Is is also valid if you are using a Windows SnapCenter Server? Or is it only required if using the Linux based server?
#New requirements with SC 6.0

Oh no... that has really been a pain-in-the-ass with earlier updates where the hosts didn't have an updated .NET version.
Java is not needed for the SC server: https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/snapcenter/install/reference_space_and_sizing_requirements.html
Apparently it's only needed for the plugin for Windows. If you compare the requirements for 5.0 and 6.0 you can see that Java has been added:
https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/snapcenter-50/protect-hana/reference_host_requirements_to_install_snapcenter_plug_in_package_for_windows_hana.html
Also note that Java 11 is the only version allowed now for Unix plug-ins. Though 5.0 allowed for Java 8 or Java 11, so upgrade Java before you upgrade plug-ins on Unix.
But why Java on a Windows host? Seems wierd? We have been trying to get rid of Java all together, and now out of the blue it is required on all our MS-SQL Servers... 😦 It will take some convincing to upgrade to 6.0...
Hello
I'm new to snapcentre, is it only windows server that can install snapcentre or I can on windows 11?
you can find the requirements for SnapCenter 6 here
Seems like the previous question of Java as a new requirement has gone unanswered, anyone care to explain what it is needed for on an agent?
I haven't figured out which part of SnapCenter on Windows was changed to require Java yet myself. I mostly play on the Unix side and the Unix plug-ins have required Java from the beginning, so the Unix server needing Java wasn't shocking.
The community plug-ins using the Snapcreator framework (which needs Java) are now officially supported by NetApp. Those also work with the SnapCenter Server on Windows.
