#TOTP qr code

After setting up TOTP for a user, ONTAP will show you a link to a Google QR code generator, that you can use to quickly add your TOTP token to an authenticator... However, that Google link is now a 404, so the link does no longer work 😂

#

I noticed this on our lab systems which don't have support, so I cannot open a case for this. Is there anyone on this Discord I can ping to get this fixed?

yeah, I know the workaround, I just wanted to raise the issue so that the URL can be changed (in ONTAP) to maybe a NetApp site. Or, which would be even better, ONTAP could show the QR code directly in the console 🙂

Open a case so we can raise a bug.

Oops that KB had a customer's key. Oh no.

Ugh.

yeah we're not very happy with that arrangement too. But maybe I can find a customer with NetApp service who also wants to use TOTP, then I can open a case for them

Delete that. Got it thanks.

it's probably a lab system anyway 😄

I'll figure out how to handle that.

I mean I'd love to have a way to report bugs to NetApp without having to have a system under support. We have seen lots of things in our Lab in the past where we just couldn't open a case. Panics when using certain commands etc. Things you just don't want to deliberately do on a customer's system just to open a case

@analog rapids fyi

#

I can't read. Apparently that was a lab system internally.

imo, the "key" in there should be more obviously anonymized in all references

#

and it is now

when we do such screenshots (for demos, documentation, etc.) we just create a new user, create all the screenshots, and then delete the user again. Also it's all done on internal lab systems which adds an additional layer of anonymization (with internal IPs and all)

I do. It’s come up a few times in recent discussions with the support contracts team. Let me mention this again just to see where we’re at. Thanks for the nudge.

We opened an FPVR for this a couple of weeks ago, to generate the QR code locally

thin nebula
#

yeah, or get some intern to code a qr code generator that can be hosted on netapp.com and link to that 😂

topaz ferry
#

there are multiple ascii art generators on github, could be embedded in the cli output

thin nebula
#

remember that you can't just take any random thing from github and put it in a commercial (closed-source) product 😉

#

also, depending in your font the qr code might not work at all (e.g. if your font doesn't have unicode block characters)

#

and I am sure there are people who would complain that they can't see the qr code fully on their 80x24 terminal screen, or something 😄

OK, then let's at least provide it on the local system manager to avoid sharing your secrets with an external site. If your cluster is small enough the system manager should open in a a reasonable time I heard 😄
