#VMWare storage paths with SM-AC on AFF Controllers...

If you setup a SM-AS setup with iSCSI, connected to a VMWare environment with say 6 hosts (3 on each site), in the same VMWare cluster, will it "automatically" be a vMSC setup? Or do you need to setup anything special in order for this to work? Also I know that an ASA controller handles iSCSI a bit different, with all paths are reported as Active (I/O), but is this also the case with an AFF setup? We are looking for a setup where we do not need to be aware of where the data is stored... and the ESXi hosts automatically uses the most efficient path to storage. And as far as I knowm the ASA is a bit more efficient in this regard.. .but is this also the case in a SM-AS setup?

SM-AC? As in "Active Cluster", which is the evil orange company's product? 😂

There are 2 things to consider. a) is paths within an HA pair. In that regard, ASA is different from FAS and AFF in that all paths are active/optimized. b) is paths between the clusters of SM-as. This is described here

and yes, it is complicated (i.e. symmetric vs asymmetric, uniform vs non-uniform, etc.)

TR-4968 has some more details (but not much)
