#Where can I start Cloud Insights?

First time start to try to use Cloud Insights here.
I should be able to launch the tool from BlueXP without installing any software on a local server. That's my understanding.

However, after I logged into BlueXP, I don't see any link I can click to start BlueXP.

Any advise please?

However, you do need an acquisition unit (AU) onprem or in the cloud. That is the host that will be collecting the data for the different collectors. For instance, if you have an AFF onprem you can't have CI collect infromation directly from that, you'll be using the AU. CI itself is cloud based though.

Thanks for your reponse.
I am now in the field of "Choose a Data Collector to Monitor", to choose AFF/FAS on prem, what module should I pick? What that be "ONTAP Data Management Software". So, it sounds that

  1. I do need a Linux server as AU to collect data from AFF?
  2. How can I collect data from FAS?
  3. It looks I can choose CVO or FSxN from the list of modules. Right?

"ONTAP Data Management Software" is an onprem collector. This one is applicable for both AFF and FAS and you do need an AU for both. You need to start by going to the "Acquisition Units" tab and add one of those (which requires a VM). And yes, we have collectors for both CVO and FSxN if that iss needed also. 🙂

So, I am trying to set it up from the link, but, stuck on step 3 as highlighted---> "waiting for Acquisition Unit to connect...". Where is AU located? or How to and where can I set up AU?

You've chosen to install on Linux. Like it says on step 2 you need to paste the installer command from step 1 into the bash shell. Have you done that? If the Linux host have internet connectivity this should be a simple task. What the command does is that it downlads the latest AU software from your tenant (using a temporary token), it then installs the AU onto the Linux host and then sends an 'SUCCESS' call to your tenant once done. This is what it's currently waiting for.

Thanks!

I haven't done that yet, I need to find a available Linux server I can use.

Assuming I've aready done so, how the installer can find the AU since there is no place to prompt me to enter the information about AU?

When you run the installation command (from step 1), the final thing it does is to register with your Cloud Insights tenant. Once that is done you'll have an AU available in Cloud Insights that you can use for your collectors (ONTAP, VMware etc).

#

Lastly, should also mention that you can install the AU on a Windows host also. You can even install it on Windows 10/11 if you just want to test things out. The steps for Windows are a little bit different but well described in the workflow.

I am able to collect and launch Cloud Insights now.

From "ONTAP Essentials" --> Overview, there is orange color on 5 nodes with warning messages of Hot Controllers (HA Fail Over Risk). What went wrong here? How come I can only find 5 nodes out of 8 nodes cluster?

"storage failover show " doesn't show any errors

Hot controllers are the nodes with a utilization over 65%, so I would be surprised if you saw all the nodes there. You can create a query and then look at netapp_ontap.system_node to see the utilization of all the nodes.

You should be looking under Explore -> New Metric Query. You can also use Log Queries but you'll only find EMS messages there (like 'event log show' in ONTAP).
