So my customer would like to scan at least once a night his files on NFS ( we talk here about some PB)
So far it's easy, what is confusing for me that he scan scans every night almost the same amount of files.
- to check which files i would have always to check the vscan engines (where i dont have access) but maybe someone has experience and could simply confirm that its not always the same files or vise
versa 🙂
- i saw also the strange behavior that i have 2 vscan engines in my primary pool, but my task seems to
send the scan request only to 1 scan engine which gives then feedback that he is too busy. Which gets
repeated 6000times.
I would also appreciate any feedback or experience with vscan on-demand-task since it seems no one using this awesome feature. 🙂
Thanks 🙂

Hi @kindred wind , Thanks for being part of the NetApp Discord! I don't have direct experience with on-demand but while we wait for other replies, have you or the customer checked out this link? https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/antivirus/best-practices-configure-off-box-antivirus-functionality-concept.html
On a general note, scanning PB-scale amounts of data would warrant more than 2 vscan engines, I don't know if there is a prescribed number but would be worth doing some research on.
yes 🙂 our on access vscan is after some changes running quite good. From the best practice sind i think we are good but the real experience is missing and being confident that really everything is scanned after a while. Since it is really hard to find someone who is using that feature for NFS even over NetApp Colleagues here from NetApp Germany i'am just giving it a try.
Thanks for the additional context and I agree, knowing when the scan is done or at least what has been scanned in the current pass, would be useful. Which vendor are they using for the scanning?
